Would you kindly leave out any screamo recommendations
Screamo is not a genre of music. It is a ridiculous name given by people uneducated in hardcore punk, metal and anything in between. This isn't me having a go at you, this is just something that bugs me. Screaming, in music, is a legitimate vocal technique used to emphasise emotion and/or match the power of the instruments. When people say 'screamo', what they mean is hardcore, metalcore, post-hardcore and several different sub-genres of punk and metal
Do not dismiss bands who utilise screaming. I seriously recommend Killswitch Engage to anyone who has an open mind towards heavy music which utilises screaming. The singer, Howard Jones, can sing like an opera singer and scream like a cougar. He is incredible

Also, if classic, influential bands interest you then listen to plenty of Led Zeppelin, Smashing Pumpkins, The Beatles, Rolling Stones, Black Sabbath, The Who, Bruce Springsteen, The Clash etc etc.

Finally, bands which I always recommend (because they're my favourites) are: The Gaslight Anthem, Cancer Bats, Parkway Drive, Gallows, AFI, The Clash, Rancid, Biffy Clyro, Every Time I Die
Some of these bands contain a lot of screaming vocals but each one is fantastic, empowering, inspiring and adrenaline-fuelled

I recommend The Gaslight Anthem to anyone and everyone always. Please listen to them:

The kings of Euro Power Metal, HELLOWEEN, and their most epic song ever, from the album of the same name (part 2 of the two-part album).
Yes! YES! YEEEESS!!

The Keeper albums are some of the greatest works within the power metal genre. Everyone owes themselves to listen to them.

You must forgive me for not embedding any videos, but I will certainly recommend some artists for you;

Iron Maiden - Heavy Metal
Metallica - Thrash Metal
Iced Earth - Heavy Metal
Nocturnal Rites - Power Metal
Sonata Arctica - Power/Melodic-ish Metal
Nightwish - Same as above.
Kamelot - Power Metal
Steel Attack - Progressive/Power Metal
Manowar - Rediculous Heavy freakin' Metal
Falconer - Folk inspired Metal

I want to stress Nocturnal Rites here. It's a great band, and anyone who likes power metal should at least give them a listen.

When I say screamo, I think of something like...Emery or Underoath. Because it's basically emo with screaming. Everyone I know refers to screamo in that way.

Just don't listen to music, and don't label things. "Screamo" pisses me off. There are a lot of truly talented musicians in the metal genre and this new wave of teenage boys in spandex is ruining it for everyone.
I'm so glad I don't know what you're referring to. I'm guessing it's nothing like Tool :)
haha no tool is awesome.

Screamo is a legit genre, and isn't even derived from metal. It's an offshoot of hardcore punk. It just so happens it's misused a lot, like emo and post-hardcore being used as alternative terms for pop punk.

Also, GEE IT SURE IS VARIED IN HERE WITH ALL THIS METAL, "CLASSIC" ROCK, METAL, AND METAL.

Band/artist (genre) / albums

Aphex Twin (electronic. So varied I'm not even going to go into subgenres) / Selected Ambient Works 85-92, Richard D. James Album, Windowlicker, and then the rest of his discography
Autechre (ambient techno) / Amber
Bjork (EDM, Trip-hop, experimental, avant-garde) / Post, Homogenic
Brian Eno (ambient, art rock, experimental) / Here Come the Warm Jets, Another Green World, Ambient 4: On Land
Boredoms (Noise Rock, psychedelic rock, experimental) / Vision Creation Newsun
Can (krautrock, ambient, art rock, progressive rock, experimental, psychedelic rock) / Monster Movie, Tago Mago, Ege Bamyasi
Faust (Progressive rock) / Faust IV
Jan Dukes de Grey (Progressive Folk Rock) / Mice And Rats In The Loft
King Crimson (progressive rock, jazz fusion, new wave) / In the Court of the Crimson King, Larks Tongues in Aspic, Red, Discipline
Mass of the Fermenting Dregs (punkish, alt. rock) / Mass of the Fermenting Dregs, World is Yours
Motoro Faam (modern classical, ambient, noise, experimental) / ...And Water Cycles
Number Girl (Noise rock, post-hardcore, art rock)/ School girl Distortional Addict, Sappukei, NUM-HEAVYMETALLIC
Radiohead (britpop, alt. rock, jazz, ambient, experimental) / OK Computer, Kid A, Amnesiac, In Rainbows
Squarepusher (drum and bass, jazz fusion, experimental) / Hard Normal Daddy, Music is Rotted One Note
Super Furry Animals (alt. rock, britpop) / Guerrilla, Rings Around the World
Tame Impala (psychedelic rock) / Innerspeaker
Toe (post-rock, math rock, holy shit check out that drummer-core) / New Sentimentality, The Book About My Idle Plot On A Vague Anxiety, For Long Tomorrow
World's End Girlfriend (post-rock, downtempo, jazz fusion, experimental) / Hurtbreak Wonderland, Dream's End Come True, Seven Idiots
Yellow Magic Orchestra (synthpop, new wave, musique concrète) / Solid State Survivor, BGM, Technodelic
Zazen Boys (experimental rock, EDM, Math rock, musique concréte. Same lead man of Number Girl) / Zazen Boys, Zazen Boys 4

Hip-hop:
Baths (ambient, experimental) / Cerulean
Beastie Boys (hip-hop) / License to Ill, Paul's Boutique
Cannibal Ox (Abstract hip-hop) / The Cold Vein
Deltron 3030 (hip-hopera) / Deltron 3030
DJ Kid Koala (turntablism) / Carpal Tunnel Syndrome
DJ Krush (turntablism, instrumental hip-hop) / Jaku, Kakusei
DJ Shadow (instrumental hip-hop) / Endtroducing....., Preemptive Strike
Dr. Octagon (porn-groove) / Dr. Octagonecologyst
Eminem (horrorcore) / The Marshall Mathers LP (I like the production a lot. Deal with it)
Flying Lotus (instrumental hip-hop, ambient, experimental) Los Angeles, L.A. 3x3 EP, Cosmogramma, Pattern+Grid World
Horrorshow (alternative hip-hop) / Inside Story
Jemapur (abstract beats) / Evacuation
Kanye West (post-hip-hop hurr) / Late Registration, My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy
Madvillain (avant-grade hip-hop) / Madvillainy
Nas (east-coast hip-hop) / Illmatic
Nujabes (jazz-hop, instrumental hip-hop) / Metaphorical Music, Modal Soul
OutKast (G-Funk, Hip-hop, R&B, Rap) / ATLiens, Aquemini, Stankonia
Public Enemy (hip-hop) / Yo! Bum Rush the Show, It Takes a Nation of Millions to Hold Us Back
Why? (Rock, alternative hip-hop) / Elephant Eyelash, Alopecia
Yes yes I know there is a specific type of music that the term pertains to. Unfortunately the it is so misused now it's starting to encroach upon all forms of metal that don't use clean vocals. Also the reason metal is used so much is (not to sound like a dick, not that I care) very popular on this website. For good reason to since it does in most instances contain the most technically sound music and lyrics that usually mean something.

There's a really good site for this: Jango
Go there, create an account (it's free) and give it maybe three artists you like. You can add related artists and it will shuffle them in randomly as well as some new music.

For actual band recommendations I'd have to know what you like and what you've heard. Something I've shown a lot of people and nobody's disliked: Imaginary Cities (they're not obscure enough that you can't find them on iTunes, apparently, but they have a myspace music with a wider selection). My favourites: Green Day's getting better all the time and the Beatles are still oddly relevant (their mid-career stuff is the best, in my opinion, also note that I grew up two generations post-Beatles). Flying Fox and the Hunter-Gatherers (another obscure band from my hometown) is, as well, something that nobody really dislikes, though they can be a bit strange. Then the jazz greats are always nice to listen to once in a while (a little bit of John Coltraine never really did any harm). And everyone likes Arcade Fire.

I'm more of an indie guy, if you want something harder, I can run around and ask people (most of my friends are into metal, which is completely understandable).

Edit: probably good advice to stay away from simple plan and any "top 40 hits" list.
