There is little point aiming to help someone get off drugs if you don't fix their underlying problems. For that, they need therapy.

Volunteer, but it probably won't be all that fulfilling. Most of the addicts at methadone clinics have zero intention of ever getting clean, and simply want to game the system for free dope. Of course, I maintain that they should be given access to it regardless of their intentions, but that's because they'll only end up either dead of a surprise overdose, poisoned, gangrene or some other infection.
