Ahoy Escapists! Been a long time since I've posted around these parts.

Anyway, I have a bit of a request to make of specifically Brits in university. I'm currently working on a presentation on how different uni students from across the world spend their time at university, and I've been tasked with finding info about my fellow Britons :p

I've created a survey, and would appreciate it greatly if British students could fill it out? please? xD https://www.esurveycreator.com/s/687c354

I'm not entirely sure if I'm breaking forum rules by making such a request (I hope not ><), but to make sure that this topic isn't simply "Please fill in a survey lolololol", heres something to discuss for all here (not just British university students): how much time do you spend studying/working vs. leisure time? Do you think people in your country work too much, or are asked to work too much? Let me know! ^.^

Well hey, why not?

As far as the discussion goes, I think I'm one of those lucky ones that gets a fairly good balance of work and leisure time. That said, we're expected to use a fair size of our leisure time to work towards qualifications and the like, or for peer coaching, anything constructive that will contribute towards whatever our end goal happens to be. Our lecturers are quite good about supporting that.

To be honest, I don't have a clue about the rest of the country. I think my lot could probably stand to do a little extra lecture time considering we've got roughly three or four sets of three hour lectures per week. On top of that we have a practical day and we're expected to do a hell of a lot of self study, but for a full time degree it doesn't seem anywhere near as much as someone studying something a little more conventional, like say history or teaching or whatever.

Thanks :D

Yeah I have to agree with there not really being enough lecture time. A lot of students at my uni are kinda complaining about it, especially after the price hike, which hasn't really actually seen a rise in quality of the universities? they're just more expensive for not much benefit.

Wow that was really quick.

Anyway, I do biochemistry which is a more hands-on subject that requires a lot more lectures & labs (although that decreases in my final year). A lot of humanities subjects typically have very little contact time compared to STEM degrees and that'll probably come across in your responses.

Not in University myself, but most of my local friends are. I'll pass it along via facebook for you!

Kinda jealous that I never got to go to Uni, but then I never would've found this site.

I like to think it's a good trade. =P

Nah, just joshing, sure why not help a fellow student? I'll 'ave a gander.
In respect to the questions in your post, no idea about the rest off the country but I'm generally quite laid back about work, but maybe that's because I study history so most of time is just reading some papers. Truth be told I probably spend too much time online and not enough working on my actual essays ^_^ Ah well, might as well enjoy life.

I filled in the survey since I am technically at university still but I probably shouldn't have since I haven't rally done any work for about six months now.

I'm not British, but as a statistics minor I'll say that a convenience sample drawn from an incredibly small subset of the total population (in this case, all British university students vs. British university students on the Escapist) makes for extremely poor results. We're talking probably not worth the paper it's printed on results. Now, if this is just some random assignment for some random class that no one really cares about, then by all means go ahead. Just don't expect the results you get to actually mean anything or to actually extend beyond the members of the Escapist.
