Outside of the creativity one can express inside the game, the main appeal for me is the desperate attempt to survive and thrive in a strange, dangerous world in which you start off entirely unprepared. OT: MineCraft is a great game, and I understand where you're coming from. Not everyone wants to play a game where you have to set your own limits or goals. Along with adding new content, I think Notch wants to make the game more customizable. And even if he doesn't, his fans will probably coerce him to.
