Alright, so me and 3 of my friends (Which is more or less all of them.) are creating a fantasy universe to play D and D in or something, and I fear my creative spark may have run out, so i'm turning to the Internet for ideas (By which I mean you.)

In particular, one nation I can't seem to get off the ground is a country on the northern coast of the "Africa" Of my universe, and I am really only good at coming up with things like medieval European-like countries. I'm open to suggestions, but the basic idea is that it's populated entirely by Insectoid people called "Azigaks" Other than that, I have nothing.

And Nobody call me a loser. The website is called "The Escapist." I knew this was the one place I could post this and not get mocked.

I suggest an entirely snowy continent populated entirely by Victorian era British people who dress in dark green and live in houses in isolation from one another.

What? I came to me in a dream! I'll sue you if you don't credit me.

Hmmmm.... would having them in nomadic tribes work? Or since they're insectoid, make them live in tunnels underground?

And I doubt anyone here is going to mock you. It's an honest and fair question.

You can feel free to browse through my D&D group's wiki for ideas. Maybe it will help.

One of my areas I made (but never posted on there) is also a desert, its full of insectoid people, gnolls, and goblinoids (I think... I seem to have lost my notes when I wiped my hard drive. Damn!). The sands area is deserted, mostly wild animals live there, and the more intelligent races stay in the cliff areas, where it is more desolate rock than sand dunes.
In one area there is a magic dead zone, created years ago by a race that is almost wiped out (and is thought to no longer exist by the majority of the continent). No one really knows how to remove this field, and so no one really goes there.
I was going to have the party get lost, and end up there. Humans are relatively new to this place, so the big surprise was going to be the hidden population were actually humans, mostly alchemists, and they've developed some(relatively) advanced technology.

You need to decide what type of society they have there. Are they tribal? Nomadic or farmers? What type of values do they hold important? Physical strength or mental strength? Are women equal, lesser, or higher to men? Do they value honor or victory? Do they make sacrifices? How do they deal with other groups/cultures/societies/tribes? Do they trade with other communities? What are their religious values/beliefs?

These are all things to consider when creating a society.

Is this type of help what you wanted or were you just wanting us to make something for you that you could tweak later? If so more information about your setting would help. Such as, what edition is this? Also, are you importing a pantheon or creating your own? Oh and what type of morality were you wanting for them?

I actually ran a game that my group loved a while back.

I made them play as themselves. Instead of rolling for stats or assigning skill points or whatever like that, I simply had the group agree on who had roughly what amount of each skill and stat.

Of course, I ran this in tristat, so the D20 thing might not work out as well.

Anyway, for the setting itself, I had them fighting what we called the "Infinite Empire" who was basically trying to unite the multiverse under its banner, by force more often than not.

There were certain people that could open portals to various universes, which essentially means anywhere, anywhen. If it has been thought of by human minds, it's fair game. Anything can be visited. I had my friends visit Tamriel from Oblivion, the book 1984, and even some alternate Earths. It was really cool and they really enjoyed it.

Of course, you don't have to do the Infinite Empire thing, but the universe hopping might be cool for them. I know my group loved it.

I would have the Insect people be embroiled in conflict between those who have loyalty to the hive Queen, and those who are pushing for a kind of Insect Magna Carta! Then you can have your players choose whether to join a side or play it neutral.
I actually think that's a pretty sweet idea.

Just go read a whole bunch of Conan.
In addition, go read Charles Saunders' Imaro stories. They're cut from the same cloth, albeit with a badass black dude instead of a badass white dude, but neither is Imaro just a chocolate-covered Conan.

That sounds like a bad-ass idea.
