So you guys on the escapist are pretty computer savvy so I've got a question for you. A couple weeks back my WoW account got hacked not once, but twice. I subsequently regained control of the account and canceled my subscription. Now I just got another email telling me someone is trying to get into my account again. So my question is, is there a possibility that I have a keylogger? I took my desktop in to get scanned and it came back clean but now I'm worried about my laptop. I haven't played WoW in weeks so this might just be a coincidence. McAfee hasn't found anything after I've done multiple scans but I've read that most anti-vius software won't find keyloggers. Thanks for your help!

Also, sorry about the lack of discussion. I just really need you guys' help right now.

Edit: I uninstalled WoW and have no intention of going back so an authenticator isn't an option.

Well, if you think you have some kind of keylogging virus, but no anti-virus software can find it, then its just suspicion. However! If you get any kind of tangible proof, then you'll probably have to do a clean install.

Sucks, but if you can't get rid of it, that'll work as a last resort.

Did you ever change the password and make it a little complex, maybe your passwords are to simple.

One thing i learned is that once you get hacked its pretty much Game over. Luckily for me it just reinforced my decision to stop playing wow and never go back. (some people just can't handle the immersion i guess ) Honestly..... get an authenticator problem solved?... i've never heard of problems after the purchase of the authenticator.... they even have mobile phone apps for it.

Keylogger...not likely. It seems more probable that someone hacked your WoW account from their end. That said, I'm no hacking expert and I have no idea what kind of stuff your computer(s) go through on a daily basis so there could be any number of problems that I don't know about.

Yeah I typed a bunch of random letters into Microsoft Word and copied and pasted a random sequence in as my new password just to be sure there wasn't a keylogger.

Are you behind a router? is it static or dynamic? Is your Wifi Secure? Even if u do a complete re-imaging (or install *Shudder*) your IP might be the same and the hacker might be exploiting a vulnerability somewhere...but i digress i dont have a Security+ Cert so i dont know for certain.

Hmmm... that's a smart idea. I'll keep that in mind, if I ever face similar situation.

did you ever buy gold or "cheat" at wow those are pretty common ways of getting hacked in other MMO's and i expect its the same for WoW
and it could always be that you have a rootkit those are difficult to find and be rid of
