I want to play a game and get into it. I have no preference in genres when it comes to good games. I have a lot of games that haven't played yet, or barely touched them. Please help me decide among the following games and perhaps give me a reason why to pick the game that you propose.
I know this kind of threads are a little pointless but nevertheless I enjoy the discussion about games and all those different approaches.

Here are the games:

Assassin's Creed Revelations. I loved the first Assassin's Creed game, and Altair as central hero, and although it had some noticeable flaws, it's by far my most favourite game of the franchise. I'm not a big fan of Ezio, but I suppose the "brand name" of Assassin's Creed is a guarantee of at least a decent gaming experience.

El Shaddai: Ascension of the Metatron: I have heard a lot of positive comments about it. To be honest, I usually don't play "alternative" games. But is it perhaps a good moment to start playing them?

Ico and Shadow of the Colossus HD: Pretty much the same hesitation as with El Shaddai. I don't feel very comfortable with artistic games. I loved Flower, I was even moved with the ending, but if it was longer than two hours, I'm not if I could play it to the end.

Kingdoms of Amalur. I played it only for an hour. I think got the idea, hack n' slash, gain experience, loot, and proceed with the next area of the map. It all felt too "mechanic". Also I was kind of put off with the cartoony aesthetic and put it aside. Is it really so good, that I should give it another chance?

Alan Wake: I love horror games! My problem with Alan Wake is that I played it for a while and I thought that the main protagonist was dislikable. I don't like the idea of playing an adventure game with a protagonist that gets on my nerves.

Vanquish: I'm not into robots and fast paced action games, but I found it dirt cheap and it has so positive reviews so I picked it up right away. I'm still waiting to be in the mood to play it...

Elder Scrolls V Skyrim: I'm a little spoiled from the combat system of Demon's Souls and Dark Souls so don't know if this game can give me the same thrills. I have tested previous Bethesda games and I'm not a big fan of how the third person view works there. I would want a more "organic" feel in the mnovement of the character. Still it's a massive game and a great title that I should play some time. I just don't know if it's now the good time..

Only 2 that I can weigh in on are AC:R and Skyrim.

AC:R Ehhhh, if you really wanna find out how Ezio's story ends, go ahead and play it. Though coming from a big AC fan, I have to say I was very unimpressed with AC:R. Yahtzee said that Brotherhood should have been an expansion for AC II, I disagreed. I thought Brotherhood had enough new content/story development to merit being it's own game. Revelations, on the other hand, really should have just been an expansion for Brotherhood...really the game just felt hollow to me, like you don't really DO anything in it.

As for Skyrim, what can I say about it? If you liked Oblivion then you'll most likely enjoy Skyrim. It's a frickin' Elder Scrolls game, you should know what to expect by now. I will say, though, that Skyrim is definitely the type of game that if you even remotely find yourself beginning to enjoy it, the next time you check your clock you'll be saying "Holy shit, is it really 4 in the morning already?"

I'd say Skyrim out of the games you listed, Vanquish is easily the the shortest game I've played I completed the story in 5 hours on medium difficulty. It's fun while it lasts I'm not too upset by the length because I got it for £7.49. Also it has a cool minigame at the end of the game during the credits.

Ico and Shadow of the Colossus.

Play Shadow of the Colossus first, I personally think it's the best of the two.

You won't regret it.

I have only played vanquish and alan wake ^_^

Vanquish is great because, while not that long it is shooting perfection. It is fast and precise. Great fun.

Alan wake is pretty good, i wouldnt call it a horror game though, its not remotely scary. Still an interesting story. I would call it a "thriller" like it says on the box. Why did you dislike the character? I though he was pretty cool :) A fallable, believeable character.

They're all great games but I say Ico and SotC. SotC specifically. El Shaddai is a great game which I'm going through myself right now, but it does place a lot of emphasis on aesthetic, somewhat to the detriment of gameplay. The gameplay isn't bad, just a bit shallow. But the game keeps itself fun with it's amazing visuals. It's like watching an acid trip on your TV. But the Team Ico games still have extremely solid gameplay. I prefer SotC because it has more action in it and lacks some of the annoying things about Ico (having to worry about Yorda getting carried away by monsters and combat with said monsters), but both are still a very solid enjoyable experience and something that I think all gamers should have under their belt.

Also I think Reckoning deserves another chance. The game itself is pretty unoriginal but it is very solid, especially the combat. Plus I think it's good to support a new IP. But I guess you already did all you need to do in that regard because you already bought it.

He seemed to me a little rude from the way he talked to his wife and I thought he was snobbish. Anyway I have only played it for half an hour so it's only a first impression. It's probably like you said it, a cool guy, maybe I wasn't in the right mood when I played it.

I don't much like Ezio to be honest, I prefer Altair and the first game...Ezio is a little goofy. :) I agree Brotherhood had a lot of new content, and some cool MGS type of missions. It wasn't bad at all, you can't call it an expansion pack. Far from it.

I have never played an Elder Scrolls game before, so I don't know what to expect. I guess it's about exploration and slaying dragons, or so I hear.

Well, he's a famous author who wears a tweed jacket, so i think he can afford to be a little snobbish :p

And he's frustrated, don't forget somewhere in the first half hour the game tells you he has had writers block for about two years!

Sounds good to me, I'm a little bored of long games anyway. If a game is short, (at least not shorter than Silent Hill Origins) I don't mind. When I like a game and it is short, I play it multiple times afterwards. :)

Personally I liked Ezio, I thought he brought a good bit of swagger and personality to the lead roll of AC. And like I said, I fully agree that Brotherhood was worthy of being it's own game, but without giving out spoilers I'll say it again: I did think that Revelations felt more like it should have had half of its content cut out (which was pretty much learning all the pointless new crap that you can do) and book it as an expansion for Brotherhood. All I'll say is that the first guy you actually assassinate is about halfway through the game and in the target's little "dying in your arms" monologue he reveals a twist that makes you killing him absolutely pointless, if not entirely something you shouldn't have done.

As for Skyrim, personally I prefer to play it in the first person view anyways because indeed, trying to sword fight someone in 3rd person can get a little crazy. But I've gotta say it's really fun. They streamlined and simplified things to make the game more accessible to non-ES players. For instance, you don't actually pick what class you want to be. You pick your race, gender, and appearance and are thrown out into the world. You then get to develop into whatever kind of class you want. Want to be a black mage/thief? You can do it. Wanna be a healer/assassin? Just play like one.

That and the fights against the dragons (at least while you're still relatively weak) do feel like an epic clash against a dragon...the music that kicks up during dragon fights is pretty epic.

Vanquish bro. That games mechanics are freaking awesome. It's surprisingly good, and it's just a flat out fun game.

I can agree with the AC:R opinion. I was told it was ZOMGAWESOME and was sorely disappointed when I finally picked it up. Even though I would like to see how it all ends, I don't want to see it bad enough to waste my time with the retarded amounts of collectibles/crafting materials the game has shoehorned in. I guess the developers thought that when people think Assassin's Creed they think making bombs is somehow stealthy...

The only one of those I've actually played is Skyrim. And I was very much disappointed with the Vanilla. I've only started playing it again recently after downloading a lot of mods to factor in hunger, thirst, fatigue, and hypothermia (because walking around half-naked in snowy mountains is COMPLETELY doable), and to turn off the scaling of difficulty, loot, and merchants.

Seriously, Vanilla practically HANDS you the best armor and weapons. That's not fun. But the mods I've downloaded have made it fun, challenging, and rewarding.

Anyway, I generally play it in first-person mode.

And then there's the frickin' Tower Defense minigame which equates to a full scale urban war complete with siege engines, flame-throwing barricades, and literal hordes of soldiers.
