Hey Escapist allies,
I am looking for music and I simply do not know where to look!

I am looking for beautiful, fantastical, folksy(I think?) style music LIKE http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6miaTf1gF4g

or the celtic women (Less Disney style though).

I love orchestra and Nightwish.

I don't want it to sound like pop music.

I hope that info helps!

Please feed me all your knowledge of this genre of music (Bands, genre names, styles etc).

THANK YOU!!!!

I'm not a big music person, but this seems like it might fit what you're looking for:

Unfortunately the people who made that song never really made anything like it again.

The song you linked to has an Irish vocalist who if I'm not mistaken usually does traditional Irish music, which doesn't sound similar, so it's hard to really pin down a genre. However, I looked up the singer (Aoife Ní Fhearraigh) and Wikipedia mentions the bands/singers Clannad, Enya and Altan as being similar to her style (but not necessarily similar to that song, which was composed by a Japanese guy). A few of Clannad's songs are in Irish as well and have sort of a similar sound, so maybe give them a try, but they're much folksier than that MGS piece. I'm from Ireland myself so all of this stuff sounds unbearably twee to me, but maybe you'll disagree.

Leaning more toward the folksy end of things, try Kate Rusby, an English folk singer. I recommend starting with "Annan Waters".

Then again, maybe it's really video game soundtracks you're looking for. Try this (listen to the whole thing, it gets faster):

Awesome, right? Definitely orchestral, and it has a very epic quality. If it appeals to you I recommend the Shadow of The Colossus soundtrack as well.

Some of the Lord of The Rings soundtracks also have a very sweeping, orchestral sound with a folk bent so you could try there as well.

If you like Nightwish you could try Sonata Arctica, a Finnish (I think) power metal band who have a similar sound. The vocals are all male though, and it seems like you're looking for female vocals. Here's a sample anyway:

Finally, if you live in the US or have access to a proxy you could try Pandora.com, an internet radio service that matches up a song you put in with similar styles.

My advice, check this youtube channle. Not all of it will be to your liking but that song just reminded me of this. So maybe there is something for you.

Let's see. If you like Nightwish, I'd check out some symphonic metal (Nightwish's official genre). I'd suggest something like Epica...

Or perhaps Kamelot, one of my personal favorites. They've got a two-CD concept album of a Faustus-style deal-with-the-devil, though the lead singer is male...

Or, finally, Heather Dale. I love her voice, and the fact that she uses Arthurian mythology for songs...

Hope I helped! ^.^

Well here are my personal favorites. Aside from Mordred's Lullaby, which has already been embedded.

Think you'd like Van Canto. Here's a Nightwish cover, not my favourite of their work but hell, it's WEEDLY-DEEDLY-DEEDLY-DEEDLY-DEEDLY-DEEDLY-DUM-DUM-ing fantastic.

Also, consider Rhapsody of Fire:

The stuff with Christopher Lee is liquid epic, in my opinion.

And here's a wildcard entry - Dethklok:

This is the only one with the orchestra (it was a pisstake of The Scorpions and Metallica doing Moment of Glory and S&M), but I'm throwing it out there. If you like them, watch Metalocalypse.

You should check out Globus, they haven't been suggested yet, and are quite like Nightwish in that orchestral epic sound.
