Madoka Magicka. Your list lacks it. It needs to not lack it as soon as possible.

I find the lack of Akira really saddening. Go watch that, or read the manga. You know it's something when it defined anime for western audiences. Check it out, and prepare to be amazed. :)
Already seen it :)
I find it a bit overrated, but its still amazing especially considering how old it is.
Its funny how that super hero movie that came out last year(the one with the teenagers who get psychic powers), is a blatant rip off of Akira.
I've already seen most of the suggested anime, but there are a few I haven't seen. It may be that Im at the end of the line as far as anime goes for a while.

Well idk if they'll interest you but here's my recommendations:

Puella Magi Madoka Magica (already mentioned, but it's my fav so I had to mention it)

EF A Tale of Memories

Tsubasa Resevoir Chronicle

Moon Phase

C-Control (I liked it but it is a little fast)

FullMetal Alchemist Brotherhood (just in case you only watched the first series)

Black Butler

XxxHolic

Chobits

and don't forget the Studio Ghibli films I've found them to be pretty awesome

I am surprised that no one mentioned Bakemonogatari. I really enjoyed the art style and the somewhat abstract backgrounds, as well as the fast paced and well written dialogue, or well translated dialogue I guess I should say. Also there is a second season titled Nisemonogatari as well as a short 4 part prologue of sorts titled Nekomonogatari.
