Not if you say something like that you won't, not for long anyway. *sharpens hammer*[sub]... wait...[/sub]

Start with FFX. It's got a nice story, likable characters[footnote] Except the protagonist, obviously[/footnote] and is quite fun. The turn-based combat is usually what annoys people about FF games. If you're not a fan of chess, I'd recommend FFXIII or FFX-2 to start with.

Just don't play FFXII, it's horrible.
Lol while I agree that XII isnt the best your saying that X-2 is... X-2 was terrible!!
How was it terrible, might I ask?

It screwed up the story, yeah.

Give me another reason.
You never did tell me if you watched Spoony's review of FF X by the way!

I'm still waiting...

Also, no hate on you for liking X-2. I hated 7 with a passion, so I can't really complain about someone not following the norm.

OT: Get the latest FF. It's easy to learn, and pretty involving.

Because it was essentially fanboy 'pleasing'

The story (not talking about the continuity issues) was kinda poor..

The characters were suddenly completely different.. Yuna was once a noble woman whose fate was to save the world who everyone loved and respected... now shes chick who plays dress-ups

Ah, yes, IV is another phenomenal one.

But which III do you mean? The literal (That being the actual III) or the NA copy (Really being VI?)

Pedro's Quick and Easy Guide to Final Fantasy Games

Every Final Fantasy game except for Final Fantasy X-2 is a self contained story in a self contained universe usually with self contained gameplay elements.

Final Fantasies 7 and 8 suffer from SEVERE translation problems characteristic of the early Playstation era but unheard of now, this can make them a little hard for more modern audiences to pick up.

Final Fantasies 6, 8, 9 are brisker experiences than some other titles in the series take around 30 hours to complete, assuming you don't heap on the sidequests.

7 has some of the best overall game design but is one of the longest (clocking in at around 50 hours, even without the Sidequests).

12 is very unconventional and is not reflective of the rest of the series.

Final Fantasies 4-9 all use the Active Time Battle System as a base and only alter the subsystems used for Ability Selection and Party Customization.

Final Fantasy 10 uses a dynamic turn based system that involves shifting the turn order between enemies and allies.

Final Fantasy 9 is the funniest, no really, it's hilarious.

The series is called Final Fantasy because series creator Hironobu Sakaguchi figured it was the last game he'd ever make, all his previous titles being failures and his company going under because of it. However Final Fantasy was VERY successful, making the name kind of silly, but none the less it stuck.

Pedro Personally Recommends...
- Final Fantasy 6, because despite it's age it has fantastic characters and one of the best overall plots.
- Final Fantasy 7, because it has some of the best moments JRPG's have ever given us and set the standard for giant bosses, cutscenes and mini-games.
- Final Fantasy 9, because it's very, very funny and the characters are fantastic.
- Final Fantasy 10, for the best ending the series has ever had.
- Final Fantasy 12, Warning: Mileage May Vary while I loved the fantastic writing, deeply political story, fantastic soundtrack and realistic villain, many people were turned off by the irritating lead, boring battle system and poorly paced plot.

Might I ask why? I've personally only played two FF games - VII and VIII - and have found myself simply too bored to finish either of them. I'm wondering if your reason for saying this might explain why.

Ok, so characters. Rikku was the same and Paine was new. The only person that changed was the protagonist but it's a hell of a lot better than FFX's protagonist.

FFX-2 was one of the most fun games I've played. It wasn't really story-heavy like most, if not all, FF games but, man, it was fun.

80 hours my ass, ff10 (only final fantasy I liked) was like 10 hours IF that. And I spread it over 1 day a week intervals.
1. I'm digging the new avatar!
2. 10 hours? Maybe that's a tad low... It took me about 24 hours to get right up to nearly the end boss

The game do not have the same interconnected plot but that doesn't mean they cannot be enjoyed...i recommend going with number 7 to get your feet wet. Upon this recommendation i advise you to have some patience for the game does take a long while to play and also that you have a thing for turn-based combat.

The actual III. I have not played SNES III (really VI), so my opinion on it is still reserved. Back to the actual III: FOR THE LOVE OF ASURA, KILL IT WITH FIRE. Or at least let me buy some damn Phoenix Downs so my party isn't dying every three battles.

I've never played a single one, except the beginning of the first, which soon bored me.

However, I've decided I might as well see what it's like, so eventually I'll be buying the new one. Hopefully I'll like it.

I just noticed that I said "ff 10" I meant "ff 10-2". ff10 didn't take much longer then 10-2 though, so I guess the point still stands for me.'
Oh and thanks for the Avatar compliment, I'm actually thinking of changing it... there's another really hypnotic one I have... I'll resist though =P

You guys are so funny!

I said that for 2 reasons:

1. I don't have the time to just drop 80 hours each on a series of 13 (or something like that) games. It's just a waste of time.

2. I'm not the kind of person who would actually get into that kind of game; ie greasy weeaboo who lives in his moms basement and collects action figures.

-----------------------

Gamers are like christians, so fun to piss off.
I'm oddly intrigued as to what a weeaboo is but the prefix of greasy means I'm just going to assume it's offensive.

Playing a particular game series does not make you live in a basement or collect action figures. I happen to love the FF series but do neither of the above things.

I could go into some internet tough guy speech about how in real life I'm actually really sporty and attractive and popular with women but it's the internet.... no one would believe me if i did so how about we all try and be grown ups here and not troll?

p.s nice work trying to offend Christians as well, it's not a good flame war without religion being brought up

Many will disagree with me on this and hate me for saying it but it is by far the worst FF in the series for the reason that it had potential but fell flat on its face

The game had characters with next to no personality whatsoever and while the combat and materia system were interesting they had a flaw: the combat was too easy and the materia system was far too exploitable making all your party members super powered and not giving them any diversity, draining the fun out of it. The story was very dry as you constantly just seem to be following in the shadow of the antagonist rather than trying to stop him. It really felt like a total downgrade to the lighthearted sometimes silly but still very epic FFIV and FFVI games where all the characters were well rounded and had individual traits that made you value them all in battle. FFVII tried to take a darker approach but left a lot of the charm from the previous games behind and overall just was a much less enjoyable experience.

The fact this stuff keeps ending with "except the protagonist, obviously", which can be linked to your last sentence usually, keeps making me laugh.

For example:

My God I'm enjoying those Lord of the Rings films.

I'd recommend you play one of the 2D FF games between 1-6 first.
They're just really simple and introduces you to the 'core' of FF games, if that makes sense.
Although i'd maybe avoid FF3 because it's really difficult.

If you want to start off with one of the newer games try to avoid FF7, 11 and 12.
FF7 is popular but only because of nostalgia, 11 is an mmo and 12 is apparently a bit rubbish.

The games aren't sequels to each other. They all of completely different stories and worlds, kind of like most Zelda games.

So to summarize try any one of these:
2D: 1,2,4,5,6
3D: 8,9,10,13

There're some damn good actors in Harry Potter.
