*ahem* Yeah I'm stuck in the study and can't get out. Any suggestions to open the door? The handle turns but doesn't pull the little metal bit back, and I can't bust it down from this side. Any suggestions that don't require me calling the fire brigade?
This is the most epic and funny OP I've ever seen.

I salute you (and wish you luck in ever seeing sunlight again)

Well you're still connected to the internet so I'm not seeing a problem here....

Slide a Credit card through the crack, eventually you should be able to push the tab up

Try taking off the hinges
If theres a window in your room go out that way and open it from the other side
Try to get the knob to come out
If all else fails either barricade it to the brim in case of zombie apocalypse or just ram through it...

okay, the credit card thing wont work because I dont have my wallet. I'm almost out of here, I just need some kind of leverage to lift the frame out of the hinge brackets, but from this side.

The little latch that catches is broken then. Basically, if you can, try to hit the hinges with something to push them up and out, and pull the door off if you can. Or go out a window, and open it from the other side a different way at some point, just to get it open. Either should work.

Edit- Or use a screw driver to get the knob off there, and work your way out like that.
Also good, except I'm on the second story and I don't have a screwdriver handy.
Unless the building is exceptionally huge, the second story drop isn't as bad as you think. Just hang on the ledge by your hands, with your full body out the window, and under the window seal, and just drop like that. I've done it before. Like I said, as long as it's not some really huge drop, which I really doubt it is, you'll land on your feet and be fine.

My plan for situations like this involve breaking the handle off, breaking the wood around the handle or making a hole in the middle of the door.

Out of curiosity, How long did you spend trying to open it yourself before accepting defeat and calling for help from the internets?
I'd be going at that thing night and day (And then some) before I'd let a door beat me.

Use fire, that will burn the door down and you'll be able to leave the room safely. Hopefully.

Thats the only idea i have, my knowledge of doors is limited.

If you jump out of the window, make sure to land without locking your legs, bend your knees and then turn it into a roll, this should stop you breaking something!

slide the hinge pins out.
good idea, but I'll need a thin object to poke them out.
It is taking considerable willpower for me not to say "Use your dick"

Seriously though, kick the door to peices.
