1) A lot of people hate change, even if it is for the better.

2) Most people haven't read the WoW lore, in which the Panda's are quite legendary, and mysterious.

3) Kung fu Panda similarities are pouring in, it's just bad timing that the film was released at all... I'm afraid Blizzard is going to be a laughing stock because of that shitting movie.

But over all, I think the expansion will do a lot of good for WoW, I will definitely get it, no matter how stupid the premise is. Because to be honest, all animals on earth have a sentient form on azeroth... Cows, snakes, wolves, bears, owls, walruses, birds, you name it. Why will a Panda race drag the entire franchise down into absurdity?

So they are actually adding a panda race... it does seem kind of a "well shit what else can we do" solution.

But if it worked for Pokemon why not for WoW :p

I was almost certain their last big expansion is going to wrap the story up with races of Azeroth traveling to the Emerald Dream to put an end to corruption once and for all, something a lot of us "dreamt of" for years. But I guess the older you get, the less you believe in miracles.

On other hand, think about the perfect targeting Actilizard chose right there, all those players that infest World of Warcraft servers with: @n@l spamming, leaving dungeons after first wipe, attention whoring, loot crying, creating drama, begging - they're not random bypassers, they are the majority, the heart and the soul of the game. It's only logical for a 12+ game to target that demographic, I bet they're going to like the Mists of Pandaria a lot. I mean... good for them, enjoy it.

Wow I didn't even know how close this is, I wonder if Bobby Kotick was out to acquire any movie tie-ins lately... Kung Fu Panda perhaps?

Haven't seen any of it yet, but from the little I've heard in this thread I don't see the panders to be any kind of deal breaker at all (especially with all the other stupid races you can go). Same with the pet/pokemon pvp, it actually sounds very interesting and fun.

It's either idiots whining about something they personally don't like or there is something more to it than you explained. I'm going to check that now since I'm bored :p

Edit: OK. All I got was that there are a few people that think the game is becoming more silly (even though they haven't seen any of it yet) so it's just silly people, ignore them.

I left the game when they started making it easier (because it wasn't easy enough already) and also made it so you can buy some special mount with real money. But these new ideas are actually pretty clever (unless they find a way to fuck it up).

Panderan in Warcraft as 'kung fu fighters' dates from 2003.

Kung fu Panda dates from 2008.

People have been calling for an expansion to the Panderan stuff since WoW was in Beta. Panderan are OLDER than World of Warcraft.

Just sayin'.

Monk class has me interested. I do like the idea of a punchhealer, or a kickhealer. Or Punchkicker [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NZ61XxFd7U8].

The Pandaren are the second best race in WarcraftIII after Orks!! I have been wondering how it took this long before they would join the battle. Personally I don't play WoW anymore but this sounds great (haven't checked what this pet battle thing is yet thou.)

The Pet Battle system is that you can use your vanity pets, you know, Corehound Pup, Freezy the Penguin etc. and battle other players pets with them, you train them, teach them skills etc. As a 20-year-old who grew up with Pokémon, I find this incredibly interesting.

That sounds absolutely awesome!!!

We're in the same boat!

Personally, I don't like the idea of it at all. As I said on another thread, Pandaria doesn't look particularly diverse, talents are completely destroyed, Monks seem to basically be a copy-paste of Shamans, 'best times' in instances means people in PuGs will have a nervous breakdown at you if your damage dips by a single decimal or you stop moving for a millisecond, having the same race on both factions is an awful idea and it will be hard to tell alliance Pandaren from Horde pandaren, and it won't make any sense for Pandaren to be fighting themselves either, this expansion gets us nowhere with lore, we already don't have enough space to finish all the chapters of Warcraft lore in expansions and Blizzard are wasting even more with this, it will be impossible to take seriously (the existence of Pandaren was an april fool's joke, for one thing)...
You get the idea.

EDIT: Pandaria looks nice and all, and I don't mind Pandaren being a playable race, but the problems listed above and others I can't remember by far outweigh the good parts for me.

Shamans are mainly ranged casters with a melee-centric spec.

Monks are a tanking class that don't even have a mana bar, and yet has a healing and dps spec...

'best times' in instances means people in PuGs will have a nervous breakdown at you if your damage dips by a single decimal or you stop moving for a millisecond,
If you're not into speed runs, don't sign up for speed runs. It IS 100% voluntary.

having the same race on both factions is an awful idea and it will be hard to tell alliance Pandaren from Horde pandaren,
Red is still red, and green is still green. That's how you identify the enemy in pvp.

and it won't make any sense for Pandaren to be fighting themselves either,
Unless the factions showing up starts a Pandaren civil war.

this expansion gets us nowhere with lore,
except by introducing a race that's been in warcraft longer than WoW?

we already don't have enough space to finish all the chapters of Warcraft lore in expansions
How this is contradictory with your previous statement is an exercise for the student.

Chen Stoutmaster is no joke. Panderan Brewmasters were considered a top-tier hero in Warcraft 3x.

You get the idea.
Not really.

I just guessed that from what I'd seen of it, admittedly I haven't looked into them that much. But there're a lot of things I dislike more about the expansion.

Ahem...

It's a panda. PAN-DA. as in, p-a-n-d-a. Also known as ADORABLE.

Aren't pandas considered one of the stupidest animals on the planet?

OT: Pokemon in my WoW? GTFO! I mean what really blizzard? What i would lime to see though is blizzard team up with the pokemon company and make a Pokemon MMO . I'd buy that in a heartbeat. But not an ongoing MMO , one that has a defined end like pokemon while keeping the stats or all the pokemon.

Pandas sound good to me.
I've only come to the game fairly recently (I started about a year ago, but only played for a few months before my laptop exploded. Looking to get a new one that'll run games nicely). My fiancee's friend got her into it, and then she "forced" me to play. We have the first 3 expansions, and will be getting cataclysm mainly for worgen, but also to keep up with all the latest changes.
I think new races are great. The give variety, and longevity to a game.

IMO; Old Republic looks like a CLONE (pun intended) of the WoW engine, with a new skin. I like Star Wars, but I'm not a hardcore fan, so to me the Warcraft Universe has more appeal.

^This.

A panda civil war would work, but I'd rather see a second new race again, the more the merrier IMO

I like the idea of Pokemon in WoW, it sounds like a neat little time sink, plus I have hundreds of those companion pets that I have merely for the achievement, giving them a use seems like a damn good idea to me.

Removing flying in the levelling phase of your character sounds great too, flying from one mob to another is just as mundane as walking there, flying just removes all the feeling of danger in the world.

As for the big hatred magnet, the pandas... they look ridiculous but come on, they're drunk warrior monk/samurai type pandas what's not to love.

My only main worry is this new talent system.... I'll be reserving my judgement for release or if I get beta access, but at the moment I'm rather put off by it.

Time will tell I guess.

I love Pandaren! They're not rip offs of Kung Fu Panda because they existed BEFORE Kung Fu Panda in Warcraft III, so anyone claiming that can go ram this sentence into their eye sockets until they see the light. As for the pet battles, its easy, if you don't like it then DON'T FUCKING DO IT.

I quit WoW a while back, but may possibly get back in for a month or so to play this expansion just to have a Pandaren.

EDIT: Also, I hope they're horde. Someone let me know if their faction is confirmed yet or not.
