A while ago on my laptop this software thing called 'Antivir' came up saying i had over 300 trojans on my laptop. As I really could be bothered with it I just turned it off.Later on when I came back to my laptop the 'Antivir' thing had installed so I checked it out on wikipedia which,if it was the same thing which im pretty sure it was, said it was real antivirus sortware. Anyway that kept telling me I had viruses so I scanned my entire laptop with AVG(8.5) and that said my laptop was clean. Now I cant remove the 'Antivir' thing and EVERY time I go on website it come up with this thing about me continuing unprotected or buying the full software. That might not sound annoying but it is.Anway I ranted on a bit now so I'll get to the point.Has anyone had this problem and if they have can you give me any advice on removing the 'Antivir' software because it doesnt show up on the add/change and remove programs part of my laptop. So if you have any ideas just comment cos I'm getting close to snapping this thing.

That is how a lot of viruses start, but I don't know what you should do. Try finding a NOD32 thing to use. Try this. [http://www.eset.com/download/free_trial_download_eav.php]

Oh damn buddy, that sounds a lot like a thing I got on my old computer. Every time I would log in this nice antivirus software would pop up and ask me to buy it. I could X it out but it would still pop up again when I logged in... luckily I just switched users so I only got it when I restarted the computer. You should just go ahead and NEVER download antivirus software as it tends to end up being a virus...

Woah If i were you i would completely reformat the laptop and then install NOD32 along with a decent firewall such as Zonealarm.

The intarwebs is a dangerous place.

Stop trawlin' fer free pr0nz, song lyrics, pictures of celebrities, and illegal downloads, and you will have far fewer problems.

Was it the fake advertisement that came up in a window of your web browser? They do that to try to scare you all the time.

The window looks all like OMG WARNING YOU HAS 300 TROJANS CLICK HERE FOR ANTIVIR REMOVAL

Ctrl+Alt+deleete, Go to the Task manager, and under processes tab look around for something that doesn't make sense to be there.

Alternatively, if this only comes up with a certain web browser, then it might be time to switch to a new one. I got a virus on firefox that spammed me with "OLOL I SHUD BUY LOTERY TIKIT U WIN!!11" so I had to move to chrome.

Now THERE's your problem.

My laptop's running on AVG free edition 9.0.1

You've missed an update. Go and get it.

Oh you gotta love the "buy this anti-virus now" ad. These guys are getting more crafty i tell ya...good thing i immediately X out any pop-up that come up on me.

OT: You should probably go to your system manager and look through your program list checking for anything that looks out of place and uninstall it as soon as possible

if uninstalling is what you need to do you should look in add/remove programs or get this software:http://www.revouninstaller.com/

its a great tool if add/remove doesn't work

Ouch. Hopefully this one is relatively benign; if you google the given name of the "anti-virus" software that's bugging you, generally you can find a resource on removing it. I had a ************ of a virus get into my work computer (never trust Turkish news sites with your Olympics coverage) which did the same thing, but included turning my desktop image into a great big ad for their crap. It also somehow managed to corrupt my ability to use any antivirus programs or task manager (every time I'd open it I'd get an error message about how the file I'm trying to access is corrupted, and it would shut down). I ended up having to re-format the whole shebang.

Good luck!!!1!

Get Spybot S&D, a program like that one installed itself on my computer and that was the only program I found that removed it.

If you can't get rid of it with antivirus software, System Restore works wonders, just rollback to before you got the weird virusy thingy and it hopefully should be gone. It's worked for me countless times in the past.

When it shows up, press ctrl+alt+del and use the task manager. Under the programs tab you will see your "active" programs, the antivir-thing will be one of them. Right-click it and press "go to process". Write the name of the process down, and use your antivirus to put the file in quarantine.

Try finding it in your program files and deleting it manually, if it doesn't let you, go to processes and CAREFULLY end any processes you don't recognize or think might be associated with it and try deleting it again. These things are a real nuisance, my dad gets them a lot and if all else fails, back up your important stuff and reformat your drive
