I've got a problem.

My brother recently changed his X-box Live account name from 'PatMcMan55' to 'MoneyCrazedJew'. He's a 16 year old Catholic black kid, one of his friends is Jewish, and they have a running inside joke that this is based on. I personally find it a bit offensive and fear that someone will find it VERY offensive and will make a stink about it. I don't want to see him get kicked off X-box Live for being an idiot.

I'm completely serious and I'm looking for advice (I'm not trying to cause offense either).

What should I say to him, I know he's not intending to be offensive, rude, or troll.
Or am I overreacting?

Nothing you can say to him that Microsoft's ban ninjas won't say a lot clearer. He's just gonna have to fuck this one up himself. Then tell him to quit being a knucklehead.

Your older then him right?

Alright one Big brother to another... warn him and after he gets banned after not listening to you, laugh at him.

He payed money to change his name to that?
What?

*Ahem*

I guess just warn him, and if he ignores you then he's dug his own grave.

No you aren't overreacting.
An antisemitic Gamertag won't last long. You can tell him that Microsoft doesn't care about his inside joke, and probably neither do the other Jewish players online. So he can change it to something less obviously ridiculous, or he can enjoy the ride until his ban.

This reminds me of the guy who changed his Xbox name to "JesusDiedLOL". Ha. Some people will find it funny, others will be offended by it. That's about it, apart from complaint's from other people online to change the name, there really is nothing bad that should come from it. Unless you want abuse.

EDIT: I don't think it's enough to get banned. But I don't know, I haven't been stupid enough to try it. :p

HAHAHAHAHAAA! I bet I've played with him once!
You remember names like that... Oooooohh that's not helping is it?

OT: It's Ex Box Live. The high majority of the public won't give a shit about your tagname but for a few laughs or sneers from noticing that it's the same bastard who have been making a killing spree of you.

Other than that, check out the Xbox Live Terms and Agreements. If offensive names are NOT a bannable issue, you've got shit to worry about until he decides to do something that will.

Also, if people won't report it, you are safe one way or another.
Which is likely unless he have been cussing someone out so they would be bothered enough to actually report.

I say let him learn his lesson by getting what's coming to him. It's a harsh lesson, but he'll be better for having learned it.

Still kind of ironic that he spent money to change his name to "MoneyCrazedJew" but I doubt he will get banned, maybe forced to change his name at most.

Also am I a bad person for finding it amusing?

I don't think you're a bad person, I saw a bit of irony in it too.

You aren't overreacting. I think this is something to fret over, especially when there is money tied to a subscription on the line.

However, I suggest you do nothing. Your brother obviously needs to learn a lesson or two the hard way, and in this case, getting his account banned.

I also suggest you keep a recorder handy, and be sure to play this [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iwGFalTRHDA] back once he finds out that his account his been banned.

This is pretty much the best answer any of us can give you. Throw him a warning, and if he doesn't take it then all you can do is laugh the next time he signs on to find himself banned. Some people just need to learn the hard way when it comes to doing stupid things.

Good, the more idiots that get banned on XBL the better.
Thank your brother for making it obvious that he is one of these people and expediting the process.

Don't bother educating him, let the BANHAMMERS OF TEACHING do it for you.

One can only learn through them.

PS: Make sure to videotape his reaction and post it on youtube, as I feed on others' rage and tears.

Wait till he gets banned, as i would find that amusing. Or you could punch him, that's good too. Maybe do both.

I would not worry to much about it. My younger sibling has an equally offensive sign-in and monitors have yet to have contacted him. Worse comes to worse they may request him to change it to a less offensive moniker. It is usually one's conduct, not their sign in, that will get someone kicked

Maybe try to explain to him that other people aren?t in on the joke and it could be taken very much in the wrong way by others. If he won?t listen or sill doesn?t understand there is only the hard way.
