Hi all. My family just got approved to adopt to collie puppies. They're twin sisters, and we're trying to find names for them that go together well. My dad was thinking maybe something nautical. I thought of Vela (Italian for sail)for one of them, but we haven't committed to that one yet mainly because we can't think of a name for the other one to go with it. Anything that matches that would be great, as would another pair of names. We can't decide on anything, so any help would be appreciated!

Mary Ann and Ginger.

Why? Hell if I know, they were the first two names that popped into my head. Too much Gilligan's Island on TVLand in my youth I guess.

Vela is really cool sounding name
For some reason I think name Ara would go with it
And according to google translator that is turkish for break, interruption or gap
Although I really don't care what that word mean

Or instead of Ara you could go with Arah (indonesian for way, direction, road)

They turned that one down too =/
Too bad :(
Aria and Vela was really nice pair
Is there any particular reason, or they simply said "no"?

How about Rina (or something like that, if you want to keep Italian theme for names)

My two female dogs are called Lulu and Mimi, they fit the little Maltese Shih Tzus well but are probably a little too cutesy for collies.

Perhaps Shiva? I've always been fond of that name for a bigger dog. Hmm I'll have to think on this and get back to you.

For something a bit different, how about Murder and Bacon? My ten year old sister came up with the names for hypothetical future guinea pigs after our current batch die and I think they're pretty catchy.

Vela and Daphe?

Retro and Vintage?

High-Five and Down-Low?

Nammu and Tiamat (Mesopotamian water goddesses)?

Boann and Sinann (Irish goddesses of the Boyne and Shannon rivers respectively)?

Vela and Ky.

Ky isn't nautical, mind. It's Cornish for Dog. We have an Alsatian/Collie cross Lurcher called Ky. He's adorable.

For a pair, how about...?

Pepper and Mint
Cookie and Crumble
Pickles and Onion (okay, it's probably fairly obvious by now but I'm on my lunch break at work :p)
Fang and Vanille
April and Faith (guess the reference xD)

Otherwise, as a big fan of Ireland and the Celts, I have to provide a few Irish options.

Aednat (ay-nat, meaning little fire)
Aibrean (ab-rawn, meaning April)
Aoife (ee-fa, meaning beautiful)
Ciara (also Keira, meaning dark)
Fianna (fee-ina, or Fiona, named for Fionn Mac Cool's warrior band)
Kyna (key-na, meaning love or affection)
Mona (little noble one)
Regan (regal or royal)
Saoirse (seer-sha, meaning freedom or liberty)

Nutmeg & Cinnamon.

Not only do they taste good together on various things, but they are brown & often found on white foam or frosting, such as a Collie's color scheme.

I've always been bad with names, including naming characters. Aye, my caracters have good names, but it took me forever to think 'em up. Here, lemme think...

Mira and Rena?
Selena and Melissa?
Bambi and Thumper? (Sorry, suddenly thinking of James Bond there.)

If I was in your position, it would probably Zelda and Hilda. Link Between Worlds has poisoned my mind at the moment.

Others include:

Emily and Jenna, might as well throw some normal names in.
Cat and Fish, it will confuse people for lols.
Lily and Paddy, just to be clever I suppose.
Dialga and Palkia for Pokemans reference.
Pluse and Minun see explanation above.
Koume and Kotake if you like Gerudo Witches.
Mochi and Buki-chan if you want to be an Otaku.
Mimi and Gerty.(short for Gertrude)
Fionna and Cake.

These are some weird names, I apologize for my insanity.

Just an outright no =( I really liked them.

Actually, one of them is currently named Lulu. Since we're adopting them they already have names (Lulu and Billie Jean) but they're young enough that we could rename them. I personally liked the names, but no one else in my family did.

I really love Pepper and Mint, especially because we're getting them so close to Christmas (the 21st!)
