Sounds like the same program that shot my computer deader than dead at the beginning of July. Reformatting was ultimately the only way to completely get rid of it.

And shoot your brother.

Your browser has been hijacked. Don't buy the shitty scareware program you're being directed to.

There are a number of ways to fix a hijacked browser, but seeing as you were actually considering buying scareware, the easiest way would probably just hand it over to your local Benching Time Bandits
*cough*
I mean computer store, and have them fix it for you.

First off i'd beat the pants out of your brother for infecting your computer. Then go to a professional shop and have it taken care of because 5 bucks says that the site is the one behind it.
the bastard is 6 years older than me and an amateur MMA fighter. I am a nerd who cant do 5 pushups :'(
Can he avoid a bullet?
I'm pretty sure he's in England, where we're safe from every Tom Dick and Harry owning a gun.

This is just a case of malware, boot your computer into safe mode with networking then download malware bytes and hijack this, after running those you should be fine.

A redirect most likley isn't virus related, it's malware.

Download, install and run. Spybot Search & Destroy
http://www.safer-networking.org/en/home/index.html

and Ad-aware
http://download.cnet.com/Ad-Aware-Free-Internet-Security/3000-8022_4-10045910.html?part=dl-ad-aware&subj=dl&tag=top5

Spybot can immunize your system from known spyware and malware hosts and what it doesn't clean ad-aware will. If your system still has issues then download and run HiJackThis
http://free.antivirus.com/hijackthis/

good luck.

I wouldnt buy. Sounds to me like its eating away your hardrive, which happened on my laoptop. my advice, take it to a tech place and get it fixed.

and get rid of that norton. I know you just spent money on it, and you can call in if you really want to, but I would just cut your losses and buy a new program. I use webroot and as long as you keep it updated (like any program) it will keep you safe from harm.

Nowadays, just reformat. It is not worth your time to get rid of viruses usually. Anyways,

You didn't use system restore. It isn't a scanner, it resets your computer to an earlier configuration. Google how to access it on another computer. It probably will not help since most viruses infect system restore. You need to get an anti-virus onto your comp. I suggest Malewarebytes. Since you can't access the internet, you'll be getting onto the infected computer from another one ala jump drive. Their forum has tips on how to do this properly. Also, if that doesn't succeed (it'll at least get rid of most stuff), go to their forums for help.

Okay if you still can explore the net or at least transfer an exe file to your computer then get the following programs for your computers which I'm assuming is Windows.

Microsoft security essentials-probably the best FREE antivirus anti-trojan program you can get. Plays nice with Windows so you don't have longer boot times. A huge improvement over anivra.

Ad-aware- great and free for basic spam and more trojan finding.

if it is malware then you might want to try a more dedicated program like this

Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware- Good program that gives you a report every scan.

As for your brother, talk to him about what sites he has been visiting and tell him to stop it. Use a better web browser like mozilla or chrome or at least IE 8.

If you don't run windows, then sorry can't help ya.
MALWAREBYTES! THAT WAS THE PROGRAM THAT FIXED MY COMPUTER IN THE PAST THAT I COULDN'T REMEMBER *hugs the oxygen out of both of you* THANK YOU *runs off and does a little happy dance*

edit: That doesn't neccesarily mean its fixed
Yep, malwarebytes is magic awesome (or awesome magic? Whatever, it goes all Kenyan Mangrove crab on those bad boys :3), but the weak point of a computer is always the user - make sure he's got a firewall (I use Comodo security suit - free, made by the people who validate the security certificates on websites!) and tell him to NEVER install something that just 'pops up' or which doesn't come from the vendor's website unless he likes playing Russian Roulette with his security. Viruses from browsing can be dealt with, but as soon as you start actually installing infected shit, you are screwed on an epic level :]

If you see TDSS in the results, it is not fixable through Malwarebytes.

As the ninja above gave you the link, I'll just supplement it with the advice that if, after running it (after booting into safe mode), cleaning ur PC and restarting, a further scan reveals that there's still infections then you're going to have to google the virus(es) individually to try and find dedicated tools for them - though always check that the tool is in good repute, ie discussed positively on a forum somewhere before mindlessly running more programs ;)

Good luck.

PS System restore can be a last-ditch effort if you've got a recent point set up - no guarantees though.

going to have to do a system restore. I got a nasty virus of my cousin's computer 2 weeks ago that pretended to be an antivirus program and disabled her antivirus and firewall. If you have a backup to a time before the nasty critter came along go to that. If not, go a system wipe and restore. Then put a good antivirus and firewall on, make sure you download and install updates, and practice safe web surfing.

The internet is like casual sex:do it unprotected too often or go to the wrong place and you will come home with a critter

another reason why PC gaming fails...
to help you out, you can get AVG or Avast! because those work very well.

Off-Topic: i think all people who make computer viruses should suffer the same fate as Anonymous and boyfriends/girlfriends/husbands/wives who maliciously cheat on their partners. they should have their hands cut off at the wrist with a rusty, dull kitchen knife and then strung upside down until all the blood is evacuated from their bodies

You need to bake your harddrive
#1 - preheat oven to 195 celsius
#2 - make four balls from fin foil
#3 - put the drive in the oven with the circuit board facing up and the back plate resting on the tin balls
#4 - wait 10 minutes
#5 - shut off the oven
#7 - open the door slightly and let it cool over time, an hour at least, sudden cooling may deform some parts
#8 - reinstall disk, reboot
#9 - be very, very sad

Something more realistic
#don't let other people use your computer (seriously, are you willing to take the chance that your keyboard has been touched with your brother's junk or gunk?)
#2 no porn, unless you are as pro as me
# NEVER, UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES, USE MSN
#Get.... any OS that is not made by microsoft

this sometimes works sometimes doesn't. I had a virus once that deleted all system restore points prior to the current day.
