I'm using my cousins laptop in case you're wondering how I'm doing this. My laptop just somehow got a virus, I don't know how but my brother was using it and said it just kind of happened (sounds like bullshit) but it won't let me use internet explorer or google chrome it just says "visiting this site may cause harm to your computer", but this is whenever I try ANY site, even obviously safe ones like youtube and google. It keeps directing me to a site called

marezer

It says its an antivirus site and it has 3 antivirus programs for sale. Thing is I'm not sure whether I should buy this or not. In case you're wondering, I have Norton (the apparant shit one) which I just renewed for £55 (AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH) but I do remember downloading from a site a while ago when my computer was infected and it fixed it completely for free. I can't remember the name of the site *bangs head against wall* but I was wondering should I download from marezer whoever they are or try to find the old one, which I have no idea how to do. I don't care if this is in the wrong section but I need help now, please.

(edited because marezer is the fucking source of the problem, sorry folks.)
NOOOOOOOOO I JUST DONE A THREAD ABOUT THIS BEFORE!!!

LOl, My laptop just broke earlier on from the EXACT same virus. Guess it must be coming from a common used site like facebook.
Anyway, its a scam to get your card details etc. I have had to back up ALL my things onto my spare computer and then WIPE my laptop as I was unabled to manually remove the harmful files, or restore to earlier point... Not even restarting in Safemode functions would work!!

Boot it into Safe Mode (mash F8 as it starts up) go into Safe Mode with networking.

get on the net and download Malwarebytes. Update it and run a full scan while still in safe mode twice.

That should do the trick, since it's what I've been PAID to do at my last job.

I would advise you to take it in to a shop and get it sorted. I had a nasty one a few months back. I triedd to fix it myself not really knowing what I was doing and ended up using registry cleaners and killing my computer while it was down. If you can also just re-instal windows. That will fix it. Loosing everything on your hardrive is much better than loosing the whole computer. Trust me on this one. In future get an external hardrive to back up anything important. Your bro should also pay for any repairs.

Uninstall the 3 antivirus programs and install http://www.microsoft.com/security_essentials/
It's the best of the bunch.

okay I got this virus about a year ago. I know how to fix it. What you want to do is start your computer in safe mode, so it doesn't do anything on start up. Then you want to go to your start-up programs and uncheck everything that is not essential; basically, leave your OS and Wireless card and anything else that you KNOW is legit. Then you'll want to search your hard drive for the offending program. Be careful. Mine was disguised as my disc drive driver. It was actually attached to my disc drive, so when I deleted it, my drive stopped working, but that's an easy fix to re download the driver. Well this is all I have, and hopefully it works for you. (Oh, btw I traced the IP back to China. Don't know if it's from there or if someone's using a botnet but hey, random info.) Well good luck!

Everyone I've ever met has told me norton sux big time, never actually heard anyone compliment or reccommend it lol!

To properly remove it you'll need to download a Norton removal tool http://www.softpedia.com/get/Tweak/Uninstallers/Norton-Removal-Tool.shtml depending on the version of Norton you have.

There's lots of free AV out there that I really don't see a need to be paying for your AV (unless your a business obviously).

OT: happy to see your problem solved, nothing better than knowing your computer is OK!

Lol its ok, as i mentioned in my thread, i'd never downloaded the software, it just suddenly appeared and within ten minutes, I was unable to use my laptop =(
Sadly the first time it came up, even my partner was fooled so we DID enter my card details (im only 19 rofl) but thankfully authorities had shut down the virus's main board so my "transaction" never went through *wipes away the sweat of fear*. Luckily that time =D

I think its connected to a safe website like Hotmail, Facebook etc because its strange that you've got it round the same time I did lol. I think I keep getting it from stupid emails because thats how I got it last time, but these emails pose as being from your friends etc, yet really its a small virus getting into your contacts list.

Try Norton, I have it and it works pretty well.

Also, avoid that website next time you try to download something.

EDIT: Disregard post. Looks like he fixed it.

One possible technical solution:
Run HijackThis, compare the results to a known operating profile for whatever OS you're running.
Find a profile of what malware you've been infected with, and look for known fixes if your Anti-Virus can't hack it (I haven't used Norton in over 10 years because it's a bloated piece of shit).

If you already know what malware it is, then you can always check kaspersky.
