Out of curiousity... what setting did those with the problem previously have there? I don't have the game yet but I checked my sound settings and it was already 24 bit / 44100 Hz.

Does it fail if you try to have the sound quality too good? Or too crap?

My setting was 192khz 24bit and I hear this has been the problematic one for most gamers.

Hey guys. I need your assistance. I hope you can help me.

I don't have such options in my Control Panel -> Sound. I'm using Windows XP... Is that the case that there's no such option?

OP! Got a fix for you.
This solved it for my friend.

"Start -> Control Panel -> Sound

Select the output speakers being used and click Properties

Under the advanced tab, change the sample rate to 24 bit / 44100 Hz"
EDIT: Nevermind, i changed the wrong speakers by accident.
Your fix works, you're a fucking legend mate :D!
i wish i could hug you right now.
ILikemilkshake is right thank you

Mine was set to 16 bit for some reason (i thought i had it higher)
So for me it was failing because it was too poor

Modify INI File Settings

The INI Files stored on Skyrim installation directory contains various settings and required information. You need to modify them to fix Skyrim crash.

Open My Computer.
Open this directory: C:\Program Files\Steam\SteamApps\Common\Skyrim\Skyrim
Right click the file called SkyrimPrefs.ini and select Copy.
Paste it to your desktop.
Now, in the original directory, right click SkyrimPrefs.ini file and select Open With | Notepad.
Click Edit | Find.
In the Find What box, type bMouseAcceleration and click Find Next button.
Change its value to 0. (Assuming that the default value would be 1)
Click File | Save.

here are some procedures given regarding this issue and it worked for me:
