For Halloween, I'm trying to piece together a mad scientist costume. I've already got the goggles, gloves and boots, but what I'm missing is the vintage style lab coat.

I'm talking the old 1930s/40s over the shoulder button coats that you would see in the B-movie horror flicks, the "Howie" style coats; like this:

I'd prefer it had black buttons, but it's not a must (No, I can't buy this one, it was a custom made.) The only (purchasable) one I've been able to find is the costume that's one of the first results when you google image search it, but it's horribly god-awful.

Mind lending a guy a hand?

Yes, I tried a costume store, but they only have those really cheesy and fake costumes.

Dunno about specific styles but you should be able to get *a* lab coat from a university shop - there will usually be somewhere that sells them in the student's union, that's where I got my first one from. My second was supplied by the department, so if such a shop fails you it might be worth finding the chemistry (or biology) department and asking someone there. Assuming, that is, you live in a city with a university that is has those departments; most UK universities are shutting down their chemistry departments these days.

I would look into anatomy coats, because those are more the style that you are looking for, instead of the generic science lab coat. Anatomy coats are usually meant to be completely closed up from neck and lower. I used a similar style lab coat in your pic like 2 years ago when I took anatomy, but that was in europe, I haven't seen these kinds of coats state side.

Edit: Wow, I think this is the most I've even been disappointed in humanity, if you try to google anatomy lab coats, you get pages upon pages of lab coats in the style of the tv show "Grey's Anatomy".
