Okay looking at DS consoles pretty much solely for the purpose of getting Pokemon Soul Silver and I have two choices:

Original DS priced at £48.99 ($75.50)

Black DS lite at £64.14 ($98.85)

I am inteding to play the crap out of soul silver when I get it since gold version was my favourite to date.

Just wondering from anyone with experience which they would recommend for me?

I had no problems with the Original DS but the DS Lite is far smaller and to a certain extent feels better to play with so I'd go with that.

I would recommend Lite, I have many friends that have changed from original DS to Lite, just because original could be used as a mace of some sort, as it's so big and heavy. And I also happen to have Lite myself.

Pick the one that suits your wallet better, there aren't/shouldn't be other differences from size and weight after all(someone confirm this?).

Although I didn't even have the option of picking the original DS, but I would still choose Lite, even though it costs a bit more than the original.

I watched/read a few comparisons and other differences they mentioned were lite has brighter/clearer screen and original has better sound. But just wanted to see what people with experience of actually playing it thought

Get the DS Lite.

Lite has better spec screens (bigger, better touch register), longer battery life and the ergonomics of it are generally better. Plus it's smaller.

Still has a working GBA slot as well.

I have an original, and it's easily pocket-size (though you can't put anything else in there) and plays fine. But from what people are saying, it sounds like the extra $25 or so may well be worth it.

I mean, you're also going to be using it for other awesome games, like when I cram Phoenix Wright and Elite Beat Agents down your throat.

I got an original DS for £40 two weeks ago. The difference between the DS and the DS lite wasn't enough to warrant spending the extra £30

Personally, I would get the original and save a bit of money

They made the Lite to fix the bad thumb pad issues & to improve the screen. Get the Lite...

Or wait & get the DS XL. It's just overkill.

I don't know about sound being better, it has pretty bad quality anyways, if you want better sound, you should use headphones with it, or something like that.

i've heard the original DS sometimes gets dead pixels on the touch screen which could be quite annoying
Oh shit, thats true. My friends had black areas all over it before.

Right guys thanks for opinions, I think I'm going to get the Lite version now. You were all very helpful :)

Actually even better - in the time it took to decide the Black DS lite was taken but a White one was put up £2 cheaper. So score!

I offer my vote for the DS lite for the purpose that it's alot more portable friendly then the regular size DS

If you're only going to play the one game on it, then go for the cheaper one and save yourself some money.

lite has a brighter screen (the original was really dark) and is just easier to carry around

we have both i our house and i dont care whihc one i use. there both the same. as long as you get an original or a lite you can play GBA games. also, original is cheaper and will probably grow to be rarer.
