Worst looking Joker by far. He looks like ... . someone who's trying to pose as the Joker.
You know, a copycat. I dare say DC is losing it's touch with these movies, trying to compete so darn hard with Marvel, they're losing themselves in the competitive marketplace. Yah know, forgetting what 'humor' is and 'character development' without involving tragic pasts, dire situations back to back and gritty darkness splashed on every corner.
Remember when Starlord lost his mom in the opening scene? Did we see him in the future looking down at society from the roof top... sky dark, raining falling down and his expression a frown? No he was dancing to old music and kicking space rats!! Come on DC, understand what it means to make movies with layers!
Yeah but when those tragic pasts are part of the character and motivations, it makes more sense. Batman loses his parents and how he reacts is part of his character, Superman loses his parents and entire home planet, how he reacts to that is part of his character. Star-Lord loses his mother, gets abducted by Yondu, then stays in denial about what happened for a long time. He has a lot of fun because he's a very fun loving character, a more serious and dour character would probably spend more time thinking about his mother which wouldn't fit the tone of GotG.
OT, I'm not really happy with this design, the big red smile isn't there, the expression he's holding doesn't look malicious enough. Joker is always smiling, whether he's happy or not, but he's always got that murderous look about him too. This picture looks (as people have pointed out) like someone waking up to discover he's been drawn all over. I don't like the tattoos either, since I just can't picture the Joker going to a tattoo salon and getting work done all over him without killing the tattooist with his own implements. Just can't see it, and that head tattoo looks stupid as well.
DC, if you want to generate confidence in your movies, make sure the release material of character appearances makes them look like the comics. The Joker has bleached white skin, a big red smile, and green hair. He wears a purple suit, with some green bits too. That's what he looks like, the Dark Knight Trilogy got parts of it right. Ok so he didn't have the bleached skin and the smile was a big scar on his face but it still looked quite like him and they got everything else right, especially the clothing.
