I don't know if this should go into advice or this forum, but what the heck.

Okay, the Heroes of Might and Magic series has always interested me. I played Dark Messiah, but felt the plot and the game as a whole was rushed. I am aware that Dark messiah is by another company and different game mechanics entirely. I also heard there is a lot of bugs in this game, well at the release. Also no, I did not play any of the Fifth game.

What I want to know is. Does this Game feel rushed? Did they fix the bugs? For your opinion is this game worth the money?

Only ever played the demo of it, from which my first thought was "cinematics has gotten better" and second thought was "what the bloody hell did they do to the town screens?".

The changes to the combat interface is pure love for the series, though. All the good things from the earlier games put together in what has to be the most readable interface so far in the series, if you ask me. It's great like that, but they still did the town screens all wrong.

Well, they are fixed in the latest patch. Or the one before that or something. Last time I played it, which was yesterday, I noticed they were changed. Now they are back to the HoMM 3 style,, with the HoMM 6 menus still. I quite like it!

OT: Dark Messiah was "meh". Not too bad, but not something I'd recommend spending money on, unless you get it in a bundle with other games.

As for Heroes 6 - I like it. It is taking steps in the right direction. Well, and some backwards, but whatever, overall it's progressing, so I'm happy. See, the issue is that Heroes 1-3 were not really different to each other, not in a big way, anyway. Heroes 4 was quite different and it bombed hard, Heroes 5 returned to the old formula. The series wasn't really going anywhere. In fact, HoMM 5 was pretty much 3 with better graphics and some tweaks. Heroes 6 takes the core concept and finally evolves it.

With the backstory out of the way, as I said, I like it overall. If this is going to be your first HoMM game, I have no objections. For bugs...I don't know. I haven't played it enough after the patches, and I know Steam downloaded some. Before them, it wasn't too bad. Yeah, I'd say it was OK before the most recent patches. I'm guessing it's better now. Or at least I hope it is.

Money-wise, it's $50 dollars right now. I myself would hesitate to pay that much but...well, if you have people to play with, it's totally worth it. If not..yeah, I guess so. There is a demo you can try, if you wish. See how the game feels. If 50 bucks, you think is too much, then you can go for Heroes 5. With the expansions it's my favourite game in the series. Well, shares the first place with HoMM 3, but still. And you can either go for Tribes of the East, which is the final standalone expansion, that makes the game uber awesome, or you can pay $10 more to get the Heroes pack [http://store.steampowered.com/sub/1753/]. As I mentioned, for me this is the only acceptable reason to pay for Dark Messiah.

Yeah, here are a couple of screens

Also, back on topic, I forgot to mention something. Heroes 6 comes with friggin' annoying DRM. I am willing to put up with it, since I live Might and Magic, but just to warn you - you can play in online or offline mode. In Online, you get access to extra stuff, your account earns experience, unlocks achievements and you can buy extra in-game content with the rewards there. These range from cosmetic (different icon for the account) to mechanical (extra unique effect, you can have in a game). You also gain access to Legacy artefacts, which level as you do and unlock more bonuses with that. Also, they are persistent between games - if, say, you get a Legacy sword, you can use it in any game you start. And if you level it up to, say, level 3, it'll always be level 3, whichever game you start. Until it levels up again, that is. So Legacy artefacts are quite powerful. The downside of Online mode, is that if your connection drops, you are immediately sent back to the main menu - no save or anything (although, you do have the automatic saves and your own ones). In Offline mode, you lose all of those benefits - no Legacy artefacts, no other benefits from the online account, you can only play the game without being kicked out with no warning.

I am. Sort of. I like them more in Heroes 5, though. They are still fun in 6, nonetheless.

Yeah, I just like someone thought of using the Personal freedom thing and exploring possibilities.

Really happy about the improved town screens - that was my "no buy" factor. They're still not as good as previous titles IMO (though lacking my favourites, Academy and Sylvan, doesn't help), though it's a hell of a lot better than what they were.

I would like to know about the non-campaign content... the "random" maps, if you will. I just like to run my own scenarios instead of being bound by canon, y'know?

Well, there is a map editor but no random map feature. Yet. Now, knowing the series, people will demand a random map generator. Also, knowing the series, one will be added in a future, possibly with an expansion. Well, at least I hope so. You can still download other people's maps, for example from here [http://www.maps4heroes.com/heroes6/maps.php]. That's the first result I got for "heroes 6 maps".
