Hey guys. I like to consider myself an gamer. Though my definition could be way off of what your definition is, I would like your honest opinion. I have an Xbox 360 and a Playstation 2. If any of y'all have any good ideas for a game that I should look for (new or old) I would appreciate it.

I second this. <3

If you're a fan of Disney, I'd also recommend Kingdom Hearts.

Oh, and all the Spyro The Dragon games up to Year of the Dragon.

I have the Kingdom Hearts games. I tried Metal Gear Solid 3 but I was told that it is a game you have to play from the beginning or you won't get it and enjoy it. I can be a fan of any genre. I can get into a lot of games. I just remembered I also have a Wii, but I don't really like it too much. Not many games that I can get into.

Doom 1 and 2. They're available on XBLA if you don't want to go to the trouble of setting them up on PC.

For the PS2, I am legally obliged to say Timesplitters. However, in a controversial move I'm going to say leave out the first one. You don't have to, but I played it last (because playing games in order is far too mainstream) and found it was frustrating, didn't really answer anything, and on the whole would have put me off the second and third games which are amazeballs.

So you fight across different time periods against enemies of the time and time travelling aliens. You use guns of the time, or I think you can occasionally find future weapons. Timesplitters 2 is very traditional shooter, carry guns, complete objectives, grab healthpacks through about 10 different levels. Future Perfect (because calling it 3 is also too mainstream) is more story based, with a persistent character and the most non-linear linear story known to humanity. Seriously good games.

If you want the biggest variety in games I suggest getting a PC first. Even a cheap laptop can open you up to all kinds of experiences you'll be hard pressed to find on your xbox or ps2 and many ranging from $15-30 but ill stick to those platforms

PS2 games
Shadow of the collossus
Okami
Area 51
summoner
Persona 3
Persona 4 (play persona 3 first, trust me)
God of war
Hulk: Ultimate destruction
Destroy all humans!

Xbox 360 games
Dark souls
Fallout 3 and New vegas
The elder scrolls Morrowind (elder scrolls games are much better on PC because you can mod them but theyre still good by themselves. In morrowinds case Im not sure if it was an xbox 360 release but i know it was on xbox so check the backwards compatibility games list)
The elder scrolls Oblivion
The elder scrolls skyrim
Bastion

If you are into gameplay play DMC 1-3

If you are into graphics play Okami

If you are into games as art play Shadow of the colossus

If you are into challenge and jrpgs play SMT: Nocturne

If you are into dungeons crawling Jrpgs play persona 4

If you are into regular Jrpgs play Final fantasy 10

If you are into survival horror play Silent hill 2

Bioshock,
Journey
Shadow of the Colossus
Bastion
The Walking Dead
.

Kind of hard to recommend games without any indication of what you've already played or what kind of stuff you're into.

Onimusha is my favourite series on the PS2. Onimusha 2 was probably the best of the bunch. For me it is Onimusha 2 > Onimusha 3 > Onimusha 4 > Onimusha 1.
If you are into fighting games, maybe try Tekken games (Tag 2, the latest one is pretty good) or new Mortal kombat, Fight night round 4 and Champion are pretty swell as well, and UFC Undisputed.

Dark souls and Lost Odyssey are great JRPGs. Also check out Bayonetta, Bulletstorm, Bionic Commando and Dragon's dogma. These are just games coming right off the top of my head.

It is a tad misleading, but Metal Gear Solid 3 is "The Beginning", when you think about it.

The game takes place in 1964, so it is as far as you can get into the beginning as possible. It has a lot of callbacks to the first two games, which only continue to be funny, even when you move on the other games. As I played MGS 1 and 2 in order, all I could do was laugh whenever a familiar situation or character or statement was made or showed up.

It's also the easiest to get into. The gameplay is refined considerably from the others. It's really hard to go from optional 1st person sighting to 3rd person sighting from 3 to 1, but if you have a Wii, you could play Metal Gear Solid: The Twin Snakes, a Gamecube game from a couple of years back. You'd need a GC controller, but the game is easier to play then its PS1 counterpart, but the voice acting is far better in the original then in the remake, so, pick your poison.

Metal Gear Solid 3 is almost entirely divorced from Metal Gear Solid 1 & 2 in that except for the storyline leading up to the first game, and one major character appearing within those games altogether, you can play 3 first, and then the other two, and be more informed about the universe you are being a part of.

So, you can play MGS 3 first, technically. It might make more sense that way.

lets see my picks would be
left 4 dead 2- lots of fun. better with friends
mortal kombate- if your into fighting games its probably the best out right now
metal gear hd- it feels kinda weird on the 360 but its still fun, but if you can find the ps2 versions for cheap go for it probably one of the greatest series ever created
the batman arkham games- if it were possible to marry a franchise i would in a heartbeat
saints row 2- all of the best qualities of the older gta games and good for some laughs...... o and pick up the ps2 gta collection

well thats all i got for now

I'm replaying Final Fantasy 12 and really enjoying it... one of the better plots and actual good voice acting.

And, yes... Okami is next on the list (even if the copy I have is for the Wii). A friend lent it to me so I'll be playing it for the first time soon.

FF Tactics would also be a good one, if you can find it.

I'll also second.third/whatever The Walking Dead.

PS2:
GTA - San Andreas
Burnout Revenge
Katamari Damancy

Pretty much the only reasons I occasionally plug my PS2 back in.

Hm, in that case you may consider tracking down Ace Combat 4, 5, 0 and 6. Maybe 3 as well, but hardcopy PS1 games are extremely hard to find at all now.

Well... a unique problem with MGS3 being the first entry of Metal Gear that someone may play, you might run afoul of time paradoxes.

You remember, the time you got that game over after your first encounter with Ocelot because you thought Kojima would let you get away with flipping off his continuity?

Off the top of my head I'll name two single-player experiences that I've never regretted buying.

Mirror's Edge
Alpha Protocol
