No one's mentioned ICO yet? Fair enough, guess I'll do it.

Play ICO. You'll thank me later.

Also Shadow of the Colossus and Okami, but those have been mentioned a lot already.

Resident Evil 4.

You said you have a Wii also, that version is better than the PS2 version because the point is used bloody well, but if you can't stand the idea of point to shoot the PS2 version will suffice.

Thanks for the suggestions guys. I never realized how diverse my gameplay was because I have played through or at least attempted a lot of those games.

I'll have to give MGS a re-try, and this Okami game I had never heard of before so I'm going to go find it and plasy it.

Once again guys, you have been very helpful. If you guys come up with anything else feel free to share.

For the 360

Try a shmup, like Deathsmiles, Akia Katana, Ikaruga or Under Defeat HD or Sine Mora
or a Rail shooter, REZ HD, Child of Eden, (Panzer Dragoon Orta if you have a US 360)

Intersting takes on popular genres.
Outland
Xotic
Vanquish
Anarchy Reigns (if anyone is still online, it was last week)
Splunky
Dark Souls
Dragons Dogma
Might & Magic: Clash of Heroes
Wartech

Dust: An Elysian's Tail

Also try Zone of Enders HD on the 360, it does have some slight slowdown in a couple of areas but noting game breaking imo. Or you could buy the PS2 originals.

Final Fantasy Tactics, maybe? It's a PS1 game, but that's magic of "Backwards Compatibility".
If you played already, then play it again! This game fucking deserved it...

Ever play the Syberia 1 & 2? You know, I've never been more creeped out and scared in a game that isn't at all a horror game. It always feels like something or someone is following you and is going to jump out while you are solving the puzzles and mysteries, but nothing ever does. I found it nerve-racking - eh, maybe it's just me. It's PC though - 2002. Syberia III due out 2014/2015 - exciting, ain't it?

Psychonauts
The Hobbit - Ugh, I love that game. I love it. Not even sure why, probably because Hobbits and ...reasons.
I mean,..look how cute Bilbo is. LOOK AT IT!

Everything else I was thinking of has already been posted.

Oh, and all the Spyro The Dragon games up to Year of the Dragon.
The Legend of Spyro: Dawn of the Dragon is also acceptable. It got ripped away from Krome's inept hands.

No really, the first two LoD games were in insult to the player and to the Australian game industry. WTF is wrong with Krome? Do they not actually employ... you know. Game Designers? They had one of their first chances with slightly original IP and fucked it up so bad you set Australia back 5 years.

If you don't mind trying out the older original Xbox titles that are 360 backwards compatible:

Burnout 3 - it's not really a driving game. It's an adrenaline rush that tests your memory and reflexes. Fastest. Game. Ever.
Sid Meier's Pirates!
The Simpsons Hit & Run It's better than The Simpsons Game for PS3/360 even though it came out 4 years earlier. Go figure.
Far Cry Instincts Seriously, I don't know why I love this one. It's...different from the other FC games. They made a 360 version of it as well, called Far Cry Instincts Predator.
Ghost Recon The first and best. Ever want to control ALL of your team members? Yeah, this is one of the few that allowed you to do that. Your team member AI can get stupid sometimes though.
GTA San Andreas Eh, just get it on Steam.
Splinter Cell - I recommend the first one just to see where it all began but really the first three are great.
Black - A "test" game by Criterion, makers of Burnout. FPS with a lot of destructive environments and enemies that can take 20 direct hits for some reason.

And if you have an NTSC (US and Canada) PS2, I recommend Shadow of the Colossus. If you already have it, get the component cables for PS2 and play the game at 480p, widescreen. Gran Turismo 4 could output 1080i (NTSC only), but I wouldn't recommend the GT series if you're not into cars. Hell, there's a ton of PS2 games that could do 480p [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_PlayStation_2_games_with_HD_support] so if you don't have the component cables I recommend getting them.
If you like in the UK or Europe, I recommend Vib Ribbon, a PS1 game. It was never released in the US, but I have a chipped PS1 and a Japanese copy. It's...I should let the video do the talking:

Also, check out Oni for PS2. It's basically a Ghost in the Shell videogame, only it was made by Bungie. The controls can get weird though because your rotation also controls pitch, so you might find yourself fighting some guy and then suddenly staring at the ceiling. It's got a great system where you can transition from hand-to-hand to guns.

Classic game... StarCraft, Fallout 1 or 2, Diablo 2, any Command and Conquer game, Max Payne 1 or 2, Duke Nukem 3D, any Legacy of Kain game, (the soul reaver ones are particularly good), System Shock 2, Star Wars: Knights of the old Republic 1 or 2, X-com UFO Defense(A.K.A enemy unknown, the old version) or X-com Terror from the Deep.

Or pick up an MMORPG of your choice, though I recommend Final Fantasy XI.

Xbox:

Fable
KotoR games

PS2:
Legacy of Kain Games
Ratchet and Clank games

I can be a fan of any genre.
Hm, in that case you may consider tracking down Ace Combat 4, 5, 0 and 6. Maybe 3 as well, but hardcopy PS1 games are extremely hard to find at all now.

I tried Metal Gear Solid 3 but I was told that it is a game you have to play from the beginning or you won't get it and enjoy it.
It is a tad misleading, but Metal Gear Solid 3 is "The Beginning", when you think about it.

The game takes place in 1964, so it is as far as you can get into the beginning as possible. It has a lot of callbacks callforwards to the first two games, which only continue to be funny, even when you move on the other games. As I played MGS 1 and 2 in order, all I could do was laugh whenever a familiar situation or character or statement was made or showed up.
Well... a unique problem with MGS3 being the first entry of Metal Gear that someone may play, you might run afoul of time paradoxes.

You remember, the time you got that game over after your first encounter with Ocelot because you thought Kojima would let you get away with flipping off his continuity?
I did say it was funny, right?

I would suggest Metro 2033 (I think it's a really good game and it should be relatively cheap, always a plus) and the Baldur's Gate games (I and II, but those are for PC =/ ).

Sid Meier's Pirates: This game is for the Wii, PS3, Xbox, computer, IOS and potato. It is a fantastic game that focuses on being a privateer, what's not to like?
The Simpsons Hit & Run: YES YES YES
Sid Meier's Alpha Centuri: Best Civ Game ever

I second Psychonauts and The Hobbit. (Still have it for my GameCube)
System Shock 2 also just got released on GoG, but most suggestion here are pretty solid.

Giants: Citizen Kabuto

It's on the PS2 but I'm willing to bet it'd be pretty hard to find, you can get it on GoG pretty cheap for PC which might be a choice if your PC isn't utter turd. (The game is 12 years old)
