Evening fellow Escapists, I was just wondering how many of you lend out your games to friends? I know I'm not a huge fan of it due to paranoia something may happen to the game, but I have friends who are quite happy to lend games out without an worry at all.
So do you do it? Have you ever had a bad experience with lending a game to a friend? Would you lend a friend a game if they asked? Share your thoughts and distract me from the massive storm brewing outside the house...

Long story short, I'm never going to lend games to a certain friend I know since he would keep them forever, say "I'm not done with it" (only to find out they haven't started for about a month), and are hardly even looking at it, and then losing it.. When I do lend things though, I give deadlines now. Very short ones.

Unfortunately, all of my friends suffer because of a scant few that I have lent things to that lost them or stole them. As such, I don't lend things to people anymore. Except my brother, but that's because he's a 2 minute walk from my dorm, so if he doesn't give it back I can come and take it by force.

Lending is awesome, just the social and leeching aspect of it.

I've lost countless games that way, but I've also gained quite a few if you catch my drift

Once I lent Star Wars Battlefront 2 to a 7-year-old across the road from me. He said a week later that he had lent it to another guy who wouldn't give it back. The next day, I biked past his house, glanced through the window, and saw him playing it. He still claimed to not have the game, so I don't trust friends with games. And now that I'm at high school...

Me and a friend have a understanding, if we cause ANY damage to the discs, we have to replace it. Also, we trade our games, so if he wanted their game back, he'd have to give me mine.

I don't trust many people though, most times, my games come back unplayable.

Yeah, I lost Sonic & Knuckles when I lent it to a friend. Later on in life I lent out Shining Force III, I got it back, but the disc was shredded.

I've lost Shogo to someone I shouldn't have lent it to and Max Payne to someone I should've... Cest La Vie, I don't mind lending out my games, but you have to have a concrete return date, say same time the next week, don't leave it to whenever or you'll forget!

I lent my games often when I was on 4th-6th grade, some of them made it back, bit scratched. Luckily, I had a disc repair... system... thing... whatever it is. So I didn't mind, I didn't lend a game to people who broke them after that though.

Recently, I haven't lended people games. Partly because no-one other than me owns a 360 that I know, and partly because I don't have that many friends. And besides, most PC games can be downloaded, so what's the point? (Don't ban me)

If someone would ask for me to lend a game to them, I propably would, if I knew that person would not break it, or steal it or anything.

Ironically, I have a few games in my shelve that aren't exactly mine, I borrowed them and then their owners just forgot they ever even had the game. (Wtf?)

I lend and give away games all the time and don't really mind if the person gives them back or not. Just recently I gave away my ps2 on permanent loan even though I still used it all the time for shadow of the colossus/way of the samurai/zone of enders.

Thinking about it actually I've lent out shit loads of things and never really expected them back, most of the things generally do get returned and in good conditions but it's never been that important really.

I used to trade nintendo 64 and xbox games, so that if they wouldn't give mine back, I wouldn't give theirs back. Also had a few friends lend my games to others, I went right off, they never did so again. Now I play PC so most games are not lendable, if they are there are only 2 people I will lend my games to now, and I know they will look after them and replace them if anything happens to them.

The last time I was involved with lending a game, I was actually the lendee. Final Fantasy IX, to be exact, and I returned it in the same condition it was when I borrowed it. A couple years later, I wound up buying a copy for myself. I'm like the perfect borrower.

Depends on who I lend to really. Often I try to arrange a trade, as a "security" measure. I try not to be a dick by refusing to lend to close buddies. Especially if it's a particulary awesome game that I want other people to play. I once lent out a little game called Anarchy Online, 2 weeks later my whole gaming crew had they're own copies. That's another way of looking at it.

I've never lent games. Hell, I hardly let people touch my controller!
On the other hand, I've had friends who had no qualms about lending games to me. A few of them lent game systems to me. And yes, I always gave them back - though usually with a few new records :]

I have lent out music and books before. I've always gotten them back, it just tends to take several months for me and the receiver to remember it needs to be returned.....
