Yeah... I trust my friends a heap. Usually though I'm swapping my PS3 for a 360 or something similar so there's kind of a guarantee which helps.
Yeah it seems like a few people have a tit-for-tat kind of trade, which I guess is better because it's a little added insurance when swapping with friends...

I only lend games to my trusted friends, that way I'll know I'll be getting it back. I used to lend games to my friends all the time until someone had my copy of Mercenaries. I can't remember which friend borrowed it.

Evening fellow Escapists, I was just wondering how many of you lend out your games to friends? I know I'm not a huge fan of it due to paranoia something may happen to the game, but I have friends who are quite happy to lend games out without an worry at all.
So do you do it? Have you ever had a bad experience with lending a game to a friend? Would you lend a friend a game if they asked? Share your thoughts and distract me from the massive storm brewing outside the house...

(Sorry if this has been done before...)
I would never let them borrow a game simply because it's a GAME

unless it's a game i never play but otherwise Games that i bought are mine and Mine only if you want to play it then come over to my house and hope that i'm in the mood to let you !

I only lend and borrow from a single friend. I've known him as long as I can remember and I trust him.

I used to, but now I have lost 3 games recently as a result, one of them being Smash Bros Brawl, so as you may imagine I'm pretty pissed off. Now I only lend games to two of my friends, and no one else.

God I hate that. I lost two Megadrive games as a kid when my cousin did that. I would have beat him down, if it wasn't for the fact that he was five years older than me...

I don't lend my games to anyone at the moment as I'm miles away from home and it's a bit hard to give them to who wants it and also means it's hard to chase them for it.

I don't lend anything to anyone ever since I lent my zombie survival guide twice. The first time, it was to a boy called Koty. He returned it two months later, and it was tattered as hell. The second time, it was to a girl named Cassie, and she hasn't returned it yet. Its been like... 5 months. If I can't trust people with a $15 book, I'm not going to trust them with a $60 game.

Last time I lent someone one of my games, he accidentally broke one of the discs. Fortunately I didn't care for it much (I regretted purchasing it). In fact, in general all my friends appeared to be complete dimwits when it came to handling games. One of them dropped my original Command & Conquer GDI disc on the floor and then rolled over it with a chair accidentally, one of them borrowed my holographic Majora's Mask cart and then moved away... yeah. I really don't trust other people anymore (no matter what it really is).

I don't mind lending out games as long as I have finished it and I know where you live!

My Guitar Hero has been in someone elses dorm room for 3 weeks so far. He can keep it 'till I get my laptop back (it's in for repairs). I also gave him my gamepad, but he hasn't been using it, so meh.

Then someone else in my dorm has my Settlers II Anniversary copy, and I got my Rome: Total War back from him as well, 2 weeks ago.

Yeah, I trust people pretty easily. They know how disappointed I would be if they'd let something happen to something I've lended them.

I tend to be a little more trusting than I should. Whenever anyone asks to borrow something, I just let them.

I'm usually willing to borrow any of my games to any of my (good) friends. They do likewise for me. That and a very nice owner of a local rental place save me a lot of money...

I lent my neighbour Final Fantasy VIII when it first came out and I had finished it. He lost the instruction manual, I'm not sure what everyone is like but I freaking LOVE the instruction manual on games, I have no idea why but I love reading it to remind me of the game as opposed to spending 5-infinity hours replaying the game.

I do remember back in the early 90's I leant my copy of a Mickey Mouse game on the Sega Master System to my neighbour (and in turn he leant me his copy of the other MM game on the SMS, that's how we did things back then... we didn't lend, we had to temporarily swap). This 'swap' lasted for about 5 years and we only swapped back when they moved away. Our MM game was better :-D

Generally no. For some reason I get paranoid about people borrowing anything. I do remember lending some Gamecube games to a friend. I gave him the memory card too so all the Super Smash Bros characters would be unlocked. When I got it back, he had deleted my Legend of Zelda game. I was pissed. Plus the games I have the most of, Pokemon, only have one save. And of course those are always the ones people seem to want to borrow.

People tend to use discs that don't belong to them as sandpaper apparently. I've lent like 3 discs in my life and I never lend originals ever again.

A friend of mine dropped his XBox and all his games at my place over a year ago so we could play some games together. He never picked it up afterwards. He comes by all the time and we occasionally play Ninja Gaiden on it but he never wanted to take it home with him again.

I'm thinking I have three friends I would lend games to without any worries because I trust them. Everyone else I know is iffy. I'd probably set up very specific rules for them.
