Ive had this exact situation!
All wearing a type of black top, i told everyoen to go home and get changed (we were going clubbing). My two friends came back wearing the exact same shirts. I lol'd hard.

Nope never seen a user with my name, or either of the avatars I've used ( the pulp fiction chibis, or little qweasd here.)
I once had the same avatar as Mr. Pandah. Mine had captions, and I was so proud that I picked it out myself that I hoped he wouldn't notice. I made it like 100 posts before he did, so yay for stealth.
I have yet to see anyone use any of my Avatars.
I dress in a fairly Unusual way, and have yet to see anyone with a shirt I own (Although my neighbor from Florida had the same night pants as me once)
Only time I've seen anything I use taken was when I tried using my Username as a custom URL on Myspace, only to find out some guy in College took it. I would've[footnote]'Appy Namless?[/footnote] been mad, but then I saw his picture and found that it suited him.

I decided it was time for a change, so now I just promote shrooms...But I've never really encountered people copying me, other than extremely similar threads on rather individual ideas, usually about an hour or so after I made them. Now that annoys the hell out of me.
I use the name Fizzlewinks for everything. Here, X-Box, PS3, WoW, you name it. The first time I tried FFXI on a friends account I attempted to name my character Fizzlewinks. It was taken, I was agitated. Seriously, who uses the name Fizzlewinks? As for my Avatar, it's just the Radiohead Kid A bear, wouldn't be surprised to see others with it.
My name and avatar are nonsensecal enough to be ignored, so no copying on my front. Although someone took this name on youtube.... they are dead now.

Well, they haven't found his corpse yet so...
