If I could, I'd break out a Megadrive controller and play it old school.Adam28 said:I got it during the steam sale too and am dying to play it. I want to play it the way it is meant to be played though, with a controller.
You could always get one of those awesome modded Genesis controllers that connect via USB. I always wanted one of those (or an SNES controller).Daystar Clarion said:If I could, I'd break out a Megadrive controller and play it old school.Adam28 said:I got it during the steam sale too and am dying to play it. I really enjoyed the 2D version of City Escape.hazabaza1 said:Is it bad that I'm enjoying the 3D stages more?
Fuckin' love me some City Escape.
Don't worry, the old sonic is strictly set in 2D (the world twists and turns and all that but still in 2D) and new sonic is only in 3D about half the timeZack Alklazaris said:I think I want this game... wonder what the learning curve is now that Sonic is in a 3D world. (I only play the old Genesis games)
Ice Cap Zone has my favorite BGM, as well as being one of my all-time favorite zones. :{(ironically, I'm listening to Ice Cap Zone now)Fappy said:I would have grabbed it during the Steam sale but I am adverse to playing Sonic games on the PC, even with joystick compatibility. I'm glad I did.
The only thing I am disappointed in is the lack of a Sonic 3 stage. Give me Ice Cap Zone!![]()
I have very limited experience with the modern Sonic gameplay (I know its been around for a few years now), but I can see why they opted out of the Adventure-style gameplay. I loved Sonic's gameplay in Sonic Adventure and Sonic Adventure 2, but I think the gameplay style presents a lot of design issues that Sonicteam never worked out. The only times you really ever pick up any decent amount of speed are in the "you no longer have control of the camera, check dis shit out" segments which usually only require you to hold forward and watch the spectacle. They are cool yeah, but a lot of the rest of the gameplay is awkward and buggy platforming.ExiusXavarus said:Ice Cap Zone has my favorite BGM, as well as being one of my all-time favorite zones. :{(ironically, I'm listening to Ice Cap Zone now)Fappy said:I would have grabbed it during the Steam sale but I am adverse to playing Sonic games on the PC, even with joystick compatibility. Personally, my all-time favorite Sonic games would have to be Sonic Adventure DX Uncut, and Sonic Adventure 2 Battle(I would buy both of these games in an instant if I saw them at GameStop to play on my Wii with my fancyshmancy Gamecube controller). And that's where my one most major gripe about Sonic Generations comes into play. I really feel like the Modern Sonic stages would have been a lot better, if Modern Sonic's gameplay was more akin to Sonic Adventure 2 Battle. But to me, when you're not doing the small sidescrolling segments with Modern Sonic, it feels like I'm playing one of those newer Sonics, like Sonic and the Black Knight, or the Sonic game with that magic ring in the storybook I can't remember the name of.
I just did not like the Modern Sonic stages. I got to City Escape and I was not happy. It did not feel like City Escape at all, except for familiarity. And I honestly would have preferred the classic City Escape BGM over the remix version.
I really hate to nitpick, but that is in no way ironic.ExiusXavarus said:Ice Cap Zone has my favorite BGM, as well as being one of my all-time favorite zones. :{(ironically, I'm listening to Ice Cap Zone now)Fappy said:I would have grabbed it during the Steam sale but I am adverse to playing Sonic games on the PC, even with joystick compatibility. And in a couple of hours that'll all change when it gets to Sonic DX and Adventure BattleDaystar Clarion said:Today I got my copy of Sonic Generations in the post. I spent several hours getting the shrink wrap off the case and I popped the disk into my PS3, and I sat down on my couch.

See, I'm Erin in that comic. I was around 4 years old when I got my Sega Megadrive (screw you, it's the Megadrive), and Sonic was the first game I had for it.
Sonic was my first ever videogame adventure, and for that, I will always have Sega's back, no matter how drunk or violent they get at parties.
So when I started the game, and chubby little classic Sonic was standing at the beginning of the Green Hill Zone, a level I've completed countless times before, but with a coat of modern paint, I felt emotions that, for a long time, I thought not even nostalgia couldn't muster in me.
And with a tear in my eye, and a smile on my face, I had that reunion. That reunion that I've waited several years for. Like seeing one of my best friends hit rock bottom, only for them to come back stronger than ever.
It's been a long time...
They're not that bad actually. I thought 2D City Escape was really fun.Smeggs said:And in a couple of hours that'll all change when it gets to Sonic DX and Adventure BattleDaystar Clarion said:Today I got my copy of Sonic Generations in the post. It won't be the greatest game you've ever played, but hopefully, Generations is a sign of things to come.Kitsuna10060 said:been hearing a lot of good about it, and to be honesti've missed the hedgehog, i might have had a Nintendo in my house growing up, but i had a friend with a Genesis, so i got to play those games as well, and they where a lot of fun.
