A hour ago i started getting ready to go to bed, i went trough my usual routine, everything was peaceful and i was about to put my tea pack in the closet when i suddenly it came, HICCUPS!, i haven't had that for 9 years, i thought it was a children thing and you stopped getting it once you hit puberty, its weird having it as an adult.

anyway, i cant seem to get rid of it ive tried holding my breath and i played dead space hoping some of the jump scares would cure it, but no, and so i hoped to get some help, i know that every family and culture have their own cure, now i have a bad back so it cant be anything to acrobatic like standing on my head.

Take a huge, deep breath such that it stretches out your diaphragm, and hold it as long as you possibly can. repeat it a couple of times if need be.

Hiccuping is a spazm of the diaphragm. stop the spazm, stop the hiccups.

Hmmm.... I should try that next time.

OT: I drink water in a weird way. It is hard to describe but it is about 70% effective in getting rid of hiccups. Why don't you swing by my place later and I'll show you how.

Also getting scared really helps.

I've heard this before but it hasn't really helped me. I know how to breathe deep (trumpet player) but it has never helped stop the spasms....

Man, I used to get hiccups all of the time before I discovered my own cure. Now I get them once every three months or so and I rarely hiccup more than three times.

yeah, being startled is the only thing i've found that actually works... nothing else i've tried works for me.

Get an item of cutlery with a metal handle. Bite down on the handle so it's inbetween your back molars. Then drink a glass of water.

Or you could use the two-person method which is to put your fingers in your ears and get someone to feed you a glass of water!

Damn! That was going to be my suggestion

In my opinion getting drunk solves all problems

Then again it causes most of my problems as well.... We have a paradox!

Edit: I meant to quote the 2nd post i think. Sorry

Hands down, the strangest Hiccup remidey I have EVER heard that worked is asking the question, "When was the last time you saw a white horse?"

Swear to god. It works more often than not. I get bad Hiccups, and that's about the only thing that will get rid of them.

Hold your breath, pinch your nose, and take a long drink (water, soda, beer, doesn't matter). Don't drink it like normal, make sure to do it in a long sip. After a few seconds of this they should be gone. If not, try again.

If it really isn't working, put a spoon upside down on your tongue and try it again.

I like the way you think. next time i get the hiccups, I'll have to try this.
Of course, it could prove the death of you when you can't breath because when you're not hiccuping, you're laughing at the hiccups.

It doesn't hurt, you just need to grip it so it doesn't fall out!
