Metal Gear Solid for PS1/PC (1:54:02)
Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty for PlayStation 2 (1:37:37)
Metal Gear Solid 2: Substance for PS2/Xbox/PC (1:09:13)
Metal Gear Solid 3 HD for PS3/360 (1:14:27)
Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater for PlayStation 2 (1:23:37)
Metal Gear Solid: The Twin Snakes for GameCube (1:08:29)
So... every MGS can be beat under 2h ... so what exactly is the problem?
To be honest werent those speedruns?
The main mission alone in this one can be speedrun into 5 minutes.

And now that I think about those exclusive PS/Xbox missions why would they have exclusive missions for a game with so little content, it doesnt make any sense

Considering I took almost 15 hours to beat MGS2, 17 or so for MGS3, 20 or so for MGS4, and over 100 hours in Peacewalker (Which I still play on and off, trying to get S-ranks), this doesn't bother me. I will likely faff about much more than 2 hours.

I haven't seen this much hate for the price of a game that people probably were never going to buy in a while. I've seen 30 for a 2 hour story=/= a 2 hour game. Metal Gear has always had massive amounts of unlocks and replay challenges.

Once again the majority of complaints come from people unfamiliar with the series and need something to cry abour. I think someone told them that their tear ducts go out of whack if they don't use them every day....
Except in this case GZ will serve as a teaser trailer for PP so don't expect that many unlocks, bonus modes and VR missions. Remember that MGS2 demo they included in Z.o.E? This will be most likely the same thing sold separately.

The problem is these are speed runs in which you just run ahead, skip cutscenes and don't play the game like you are supposed to i.e. sneaking exploring and stuff.

It seems to me that yet again Kojima is fucking around with what his audience wants and likely will get away with it again. Personally I gave up on the bloke after Snake Eater (because yeah I really want to keep killing guys just to get 5-6 different types of medicine that drop randomly just so I can fucking heal damage) and even MGS 2 was a slap in the face (Raiden and that whiny GF of his plus the most ludicriously one sided fight ever....1 man and a rocket launcher against a fucking army of Metal Gears, yeah that's sooo much fun). The man has zero respect for his audience and just does whatever the fuck he likes so imo screw him if he wants to pull this shit, he wont be getting my money anymore.

Sorry for all the F bombs but this guy makes my blood boil, if I had my way he'd be strapped to a chair all day and be forced to play Sniper 2 over and over without being allowed to skip the cutscenes!

Oh for the love of... Kojima, it's not the LENGTH, it's the PRICE.

You're charging $40 for what is less content than some $8 DLC I can buy off the marketplace.

I know it's not nice to laugh at people getting screwed, but sometimes... I'm reminded of why I bailed out of this series after MGS3. I haven't once regretted it. I occasionally feel bad for the fanbase, but... they keep bending over for it.

Quit buying Kojima's garbage, people.

Not only is the length-price ratio ridiculous, it's also the fact that the makers themselves are introducing it as a tutorial for another game, which is like selling you DLC before you buy the actual game at a later, more expensive price. Also I would never defend a short game's replayability on the grounds of online gameplay.

This is a small go-between game for Phantom Pain, right? I guess I'll have to wait to see the price and what that 2-hour playthrough really means. MGS games have traditionally been games that I've played over and over again. So this "could" have value. It's also supposed only be the main story that is 2-hours with the 5 other things he mentioned being some other amount of time.

From the initial report, the two hour length was just for the main mission. So with five side ops, that will likely expand the length by a few hours or so. And the price varies depending on the console the game is purchased for and whether you go physical or digital. $40 is the most expensive, being a physical disk for the new-gen consoles. $30 is physical disk for last-gen consoles or digital release on new-gen. $20 will get you the digital release for last gen. I think $30 for 7-ish hours of gameplay is reasonable, especially as I know I will replay this game quite a bit, as I did with previous MGS entries.

It may not be a day one purchase for me, but I'll definitely be picking this up.

To be fair, there was far less of a hubbub over Metal Gear Solid 4, which also had roughly 2-3 of actual gameplay.

And that game was sixty fucking dollars.

I'd say that game has around 8-12 hours of actual gameplay, the chunks where you get to play are pretty damn substantial, not exactly comparable. Though we don't really know because we only have Game Informers word for it, the game could be longer or shorter than 2 hours for all we know).

On one hand I usually dislike how "play times" are often "rushing through the main quest, skipping all dialog, doing only what is mandatory to get to the end". That isn't play time, that's a speed run. At very least have the thing inclusive of all gameplay and cutscenes before giving a time figure. On the other hand, I do feel that for $40 I expect a full-length game. Games like Dear Ester and Journey often cost less than $10. If this is an introductory "demo/tutorial" , price it accordingly - $10, or certainly no more than $20.

What is more frustrating to me is that it appears that both Ground Zeroes and The Phantom Pain won't be released on PC, my platform of choice, at least in parity with the other consoles. I had hoped that, much like Capcom, Konami had finally figured out that the PC (especially released via Steam, or utilizing Steamworks) is a viable platform and there are lots of gamers that want to enjoy your products but have no interest purchasing a console. When they launched Metal Gear Rising: Revengance on PC with all DLC included, at an excellent price point ($20 for the first week or pre orders, $30 after that), I went out of my way to preorder and support it. So did many others apparently, as it was deemed a successful release!

Especially in this day and age where major consoles are basically proprietary, locked down, (and depending on your perspective, overpriced and underpowered) gaming PCs, I see no reason not to release for PC users from a technical standpoint and even less so to deny this valuable market from a financial standpoint.

If those 2 hours are pure gameplay, that's every other mgs game.
If they include cutscenes, we have a problem.

I'm more worried about the notion that this full price game is basically just the tutorial for the next one.

I don't have a problem with the two hour to complete, the price, or that its a tutorial. Its the combination of all three, I don't think I would be as frustrated with this information if one of those things was different.

Then just how much is TPP going to cost?
After all, it's 300 times bigger and [hopefully] longer than GZ.

I sure hope the content will justify the price.

I'm a huge Kojima fan, I love his work cause I find it the good kind of crazy most of the time.

That said, I will be cautious about this - a nice $20 digital last-gen release seems a good option for anyone not wanting to splash too much on a "glorified demo". And that's just talking first-day sales, the price will go down, plus there will be second-hand discs soon enough, especially if its really that short.

So, you know...less hate, more actual information is needed, as always.

What, two hours? That's not even time for a single cutscene in an MGS game.
Game Informer says "the game's main mission can be completed in under two hours - or in just five minutes if you know what you're doing".

EDIT: Well, the site says that, but I'm still looking for the quote on Game Informer.

Shoot. I have a hard choice ahead of me.

Should I buy a 2 hour metal gear game for $40

Or should I buy a 100 hour Persona game for $10?

Oh, wait, that's not difficult at all.
