"Move along, move along, nothing to see here..."

You guys are reading into nothing.

He uses this whole "the next" thing for the entire speech, so why are people looking at this one moment like its the precursor announcement of future metal gears.

He even says "if we do this" and you should all know, in this industry "if" = non-existent even as vapourware.

TBH his announcement that he will make an announcement at this years E3 says more about a new game coming than this does.

ATTENTION:

Metal Gear does not mean Solid Snake.

Metal Gear can mean Solid Snake.

There have been Metal Gears in the past where you don't play as Solid Snake.

There will be more Metal Gears. 4 was not the last. 4 was the end "last mission" of Solid Snake.

There is still potential to include Solid Snake in more games, even as the main character. This is despite what many people would hate/think. He's a character. Simply because a game showed his death doesn't mean there's no more story for him.

There are still tons of things to do as Snake, story wise.

There's an entire games worth of crap that has happened to Raiden in between Sons of Liberty and 4.

This "Letting dead dogs lie" stuff is absurd and, I feel, it shows either a lack of knowledge of the series (go grab your database and read through it) or the feeling that Metal Gear=Solid Snake (which is incorrect as well) and that his death means there lacks anything else to do with the series and that he 'ended' it.

He didn't. Maybe just with Solid Snake.
He didn't die. He was about to pull the trigger, then big boss walked up and they had a chat.

That moron, he's supposed to be making Zone of the Enders 3, i.e, something actually GOOD. Yeah, he's one of these guys that wants to be respected as an "artist" but at the same time doesn't have the guts to turn down the tons of money fanboys will throw at him for churning out more and more MGS.

Now, I liked MGS3: Subsistence a lot, but the ZOE universe just has so much unexplored potential. Just imagine what a next-gen ZOE experience could be like! ZOE 2 was mind-blowing on the PS2. It's unfathomable how great a sequel on a next-gen system could be.

But I don't like Kojima. He's the Shinji Mikami of Konami-he'll say or do anything to make a buck.
Who cares, you're just a goomba.
Who cares about you, you're just a scribbler. And don't be racist.

Best of luck to Hideo Kojima and the three people who care.

Aww come on you have to admit he was at least a little bit awesome in 4, I mean he was
flatened by a giant ship and survived, plus his fight with Vamp was pretty cool.

Anyone else thoroughly disinterested? MGS on the PSX was outstanding, it invented a new game type. Afterwards 2, 3 and 4 were just trash with longer and longer cut scenes. Go watch a movie. If I wanted to hear an old man ramble on about the state of man, life, love and the universe then take Id visit my grandfather more often. Theres a reason I only see him at Christmas.

I want to play games not watch cut scene wankery so that kojima can convince himself hes an artist. If he was so good with story hed write books or real films.

Its just not exciting anymore. Everyone else can buy it release day and rave about the story. Ill be giving MGS a miss... again.

Yeah... a one and a half hour chat funnily enough...

He was. This is a point which has sparked a never-ending arguement between my best friend and I, usually when we're drunk. Yes, Raiden was a pussy whipped emo ***** boy in MGS2, in fact 70% of MGS2 was pure unadultered emo. Still a good game though.

However when he returns in MGS4 in his cyborg ninja incarnation and massive personality transformation (apart from crying about how it rained on his birthday, I laughed) he is undeniably cool. Not to mention resilient.
How many major characters in a game can you recall who have carried on fighting in spite of nearly being overwhelmed by suppressed memories, brutally tortured, having their head severed from their bodies(by the upper jaw, no more) to be placed on a cybernetic one, being stabbed multiple times, having to have their blood dialised, getting crushed by a ship and losing both arms? Oh yeah, and having it rain on their birthday?

Seeing as how he went on vacation to die...

He's dead. Too old to do anything else.

Good, though all are really different, MGS4 was the best, and I want to see another metal gear game where I could move and aim at the same time. I just hope he isnt just talking about the one for the iphone, though

Well in my opinion Hideo Kojima's managed to maintain the quailty of the MGS series and he has a huge fan base around them (I freely admit to being part of it)... if he can keep it up the quality, there's still a wealth of material he could use for a new game, it makes sense to carry on.

Metascores for the Metal Gear Solid series (www.metacritic.com)
MGS1 - 94
MGS2 - 96
MGS3 - 91
MGS4 - 94
MGS5 - ??? ... Lets hope it's still up there!

That was exactly what I was thinking when I saw the screenshot. The whole conference was about making the impossible possible and how the MGS franchise grew and continued on.

But I would personally like a new Metal Gear game, I don't care who's the star. Snake, Raiden, Otacon, Liquid, whatever, just so long as it's a good ole' fashioned Kojima game.

How unoriginal.

I was willing to accept Metal Gear Solid 2 because MGS 1 for PS1 was an original game and it also made some sense and wasn't completely ridiculous. I was willing to accept MGS 3 because it had new gameplay elements and MGS 2 left me with MGS blue balls, but it was okay.

MGS 4 was just completely and utterly ridiculous. I don't understand how someone says it's "one of the most incredible stories of all time". The story is trash, and doesn't make sense even if you tried. Not to mention, there was no stealth content in a game that is supposed to be the father of modern stealth action.

Metal Gear Solid 4 plays out like some sad and obscure late night cartoon series that nobody watches.

there was stealth if you do the harder difficulties

The hype was all about no where to hide. You stand still and you are invisible. Also it was all story and no game play. I hate that I loved MGS3 more then 4. It was a cop out and kill everyone just by showing up "FoxDie". And the Ending hurt because it wasn't what anyone wanted in the sense of closer.

I liked it at first until Raiden was doing Cartwheels and spinning the Gekkos. But I rather him then Snake and Liquids Grumpy Old Men situation.
Also most likely Raiden will be back to regular if he is the Main Character.

And?

..Oh wait, you don't realize that over seventy percent of game producers are greedy S.O.B's who don't care about us games are art dipshits and just care about milking the cow that works the best.
