Higgs Boson-Like Particle Discovery Claimed At LHC

Okay, for someone who has no idea about physics and how it works and stuff.
Could someone please explain what this is, what it means and why it is significant?
I don't get the whole "quarks" and such terminology.
Basically, I'm asking for a laymans explanation.

Quarks form Hadrons

Most common Hadrons are Protons and Neutrons

The Higgs-Boson Particle forms Quarks, despite the Higgs-Boson having more mass.

That's the basest explanation as I see it.

I still don't understand.
What does this actually mean?
I understand what Protons and Neutrons are, but that is about it.

Well, the base explanation as I understand it is that the Higgs-Boson is the base material for all matter in the universe. The scientists are trying to prove that this matter triggered the Big Bang and essentially created the universe.

Right!
I understand that far better!
That also explains why people are saying "god particle"

*Note America's commercial engineering department has been shut down since the advent of the Boeing 747. All future engineering projects have since been moved to China. However America's military engineering department still goes strong.
