To get rid of any confusion, the symbol '?' (question mark) has, for some reason I don't know, replaced all of the apostrophes. Stuff like "Bol?Kar" is actually supposed to be "Bol'Kar". It'd take too long to fix it and I'm just heading out the door.

Also I think there are a few inconsistencies between the Moon Elves, Forest Elves, and the Sons of Mikrish. That's because I haven't totally straightened them up yet, but when I'm done their histories will merge together as one to show a beautiful story of rebellion and forgiveness.

So far I have 2 and a half races developed with a war. I also have a map.

Name: Lu Snar (Moon Elves in the common tongue)
Life expectancy: 1000 years
Region: The right-hand half of the snowy area in the North.
Region Capital: Lum Lezar
National Behavior: Knowledgeable and wise. They are a peaceful people who spend their days pursuing knowledge of magic. Their warriors are still respected, though.
The Moon Elves love wind music and have a particular love for the ocarina.
They hold an annual festival called ?Skre Morit? which signifies their ?illumination?. The illumination is what happened thousands of years ago when a tribe of elves were fused with the magic of the moon and became the moon elves.
Language: They speak the common tongue because they were once banished from the land of the Elves, but they are once more friends of the Elves. Their ceremonies and names are elvish though, because they believe that their elven identity was partially what made them candidates for illumination.
Religion: The Speaker. The elves believe that God spoke the world into existence, and sent his Son to take our punishment when the races rebelled against Him.
Appearance: They are silver skinned. They glint and glitter in the sunlight (like the moon) but only subtly. They have grey eyes at birth, and their eyes change colour based on their talents. Mages have purple eyes, warriors have orange eyes.
Government: The Moon Elf society is ruled by the council of 12. 10 mages and 2 warriors rule over all decisions in the lunar tower in the heart of Lum Lezar. The moon elves believe that the mages bring wisdom and the warriors bring passion to the table.
Houses of nobility: There are 4 houses of nobility. They are:
Tel?Rith: Tel?Rith is the noble house of the crescent moon. They represent change and merchants.
Mor?Amar: Mor?Amar is the noble house of the half moon. They represent balance. The nobles of this house are usually proficient in dual-wielding blades.
Kel?Tri: Kel?Tri is the noble house of the full moon. They are highly respected magic users and they live communally in a great city of floating towers high above the ground. They are dragon keepers and dragon riders.
Dor?Norgath: Dor?Norgath is the noble house of the dark side of the moon. They are the opposite of the moon elves in many ways. They cannot stand exposure to direct sunlight and are usually nocturnal. They can move silently and swiftly and have great acrobatic prowess. The sunlight hurts them and they must wear cloaks and the like to go out in the day. Unlike all other dark elves they don?t need to sleep very often and can keep themselves going with meditation. They are also passionate about their religion. Despite being basically the opposite of the moon elves, they have a great relationship with all of the other houses as the moon elves know that balance is needed and that diversity breeds strength. The house of Dor?Norgath breeds many rangers and demon hunters.
Among each of the houses are corrupt individuals who have rejected the ways of the moon elves. They secretly desire to bring about the end of their race and join once more with the elves of the forest.
Personality: some think that the moon elves must be a sombre bunch considering their love of magic and intelligence and wisdom. This is not so. They are actually very light-hearted and love to joke, opting to be sombre and serious only when the situation dictates it.
Celebrations:
Skre Morit: The celebration of the illumination. The moon elves celebrate this day by waiting for the moon to rise on the horizon and then commencing with drinking wines and ales and eating a great feast.
El?Morkanus: The celebration of ascension. This is where Kel?Tri celebrate the day where their floating city was finally finished and raised into the sky.
The festival of the night?s breeze: This is a festival of Dor?Norgath. This is the only festival whose name is commonly referred to in the common tongue as the house of the dark side of the moon is like the opposite of the moon elves. On this day the elves from all around spend the day in prayer and fellowship and then party all night under the light of the moon.
Kre?Stor: On this day the members of Mor?Amar put on a show for the community. They act and perform fantastic fire shows and juggle. At the end of the show everybody throws snow lillies (flowers that only grown in cold areas) and then have a feast.
Mor?Neroth: The festival of Tel?Rith. On this day the merchants of the land have a sale and give all proceeds to the needy of other kingdoms.
Spendoranmi: The celebration of the day The Speaker?s son was born. This festival is accompanied with gift-giving and theatrical plays put on by each noble house, followed by a feast. This festival is carried over from the time the Moon Elves were still Forest Elves.
Meknimaron: The celebration of the day The Speaker?s son turned aside the punishment that the rebellious races deserved. On this day the Moon Elves have a feast of vegetables and fruits. This festival is also from the days when the Moon Elves were still Forest Elves.

Background lore:
Thousands of years ago the moon elves were a tribe of forest elves who lived in harmony with one another, carrying out the commands of The Speaker. They practiced magic and were a learned people, renowned for their kindness and dedication.
At Lekkar-Morn, the elven festival of the woods, a tribe of forest elves known as ?The Sons of Mikrish? declared that anyone who did not worship their dark god would be put to death. The tribe then slaughtered many of the attendants of the festival.
The elven elders appealed to the Moon Tribe, asking for a magic that would wipe out all evil within the forest. The Moon Tribe new better, though, and told the elders that evil exists in all creatures and manifests itself in hatred. To wipe out all evil would end all life in the kingdoms.
The elven elders, still in a rage over the betrayal at Lekkar-Morn, declared the Moon Tribe outlaws and demanded their heads.
The Moon Tribe fled into the Northern tundra. As they entered the snowy fields a blood moon rose in the sky and the moon elves fell to their knees worshipping The Speaker. When they woke up the next morning they had been changed.
They proceeded to trek into the tundra and the mountains and eventually they came across a beautiful forest. It was at the edge of that forest where the Moon Elves first built permanent homes for themselves.
As time went on The Children of Mikrish waged war against the Forest Elves, and the Moon Elves continued to build their kingdom. Once their kingdom was established and they had a competent fighting force they sent a scouting party to check on the situation in the Forest.
Contrary to what they thought would happen, The Sons of Mikrish were on the verge of winning the war and had already wiped out a number of tribes. When the Moon Elves heard this they mobilised a full force and returned to their homeland in glittering splendour.
They wiped out The Sons of Mikrish?s armies at great loss to their own ranks. The Forest Elves acknowledged that they had been wrong and the Forest Elves and the Moon Elves made peace.
It was there in the Forest capital of Wret Morgel that the council of 12 was first formed ? so that in the future there would be a government to reach decisions and reduce unnecessary loss of life, both to their own ranks and the ranks of others.
The Moon Elves returned home as heroes. As the years went by the Moon Elves formed houses of nobility and became famous for their love and kindness, as well as their dedication to The Speaker.
During the war some of the Moon Elves were able to slay the demons that the Mikrishian warlocks had summond. Those who slayed demons on the battlefield were rewarded with a magical transformation. Their skin became dark and their minds became sharper, but they paid the price by no longer being able to stand the sunlight. They were not evil, though. There exists a saying amongst the silver-skinned Moon Elf houses: ?The light of their skin has merely joined the light of their soul?.
But what became of The Sons of Mikrish? The armies were defeated, but the elders retreated. They now re-build in secret, deep underground. Some say their tunnels run all under Vaelor. Some say they?ve even seen the Sons of Mikrish. Thos who claim to have seen them say that centuries of worshipping a demon-god has turned their skin red and their veins black.
The Moon Elves have come through a lot of suffering and persecution, but have also been blessed and are among the most loved races. They are still a young race, though, and perhaps their biggest battle is still to come.
Name: Sons of Mikrish
Life expectancy: 1000 years
Region: Underground tunnels and caverns that span the entire land of Vaelor.
Region Capital: Bal Mikrish
National Behavior: They are evil and hate-filled. They hate all races who don?t bow to the demon-god Mikrish and have vowed to purge the land of the non-believers. They highly value warlocks and assassins.
Every year they hold a festival called ?Bik Mokkar?, which celebrates the anniversary of their ?choosing?. The Choosing was when the demon-god Mikrish first revealed himself to the Forest Elves, spawning the Sons of Mikrish tribe.
The Sons of Mikrish are a heavily patriarchal society. They have very little respect for women. They do not marry, but ?collect? wives to bear them sons.
When a Mikrishian has a daughter they will often be sold into slavery until they reach adult age (50 years) at which point they will be sold to a male as a part of his collection.
If a Mikrishian female bears 3 daughters in a row they will be put to death. Neither their blood nor their flesh will be consumed, as they?re considered to be ?unclean?, and they will not be offered as a sacrifice to Mikrish as they?re considered to be unworthy.
Language: They speak a harsh dialect of Elvish which is similar to the language of the Forest Elves.
Religion: Mikrish. Their demon-god Mikrish revealed himself to the Forest Elves, and the believers formed the Sons of Mikrish tribe. The Mikrishian religion teaches that one day the ?great slaughter? will be complete. This is when all non-believers are wiped out. On this day, the Mikrishians believe that Mikrish himself will burst through the earth, emerging from hell, and all of his loyal followers will descend into the abyss to live eternally in constant war and revel in the torture of the non-believer?s souls.
Appearance: Their evil manifests itself outwardly. Their skin is red and their veins are black. They have black hair which they wear in ponytails and their armour is covered in spikes. Their eyes glow red.
Government: The Sons of Mikrish are ruled by the Dark Chantry. These are the priests of Mikrish. Every time a big decision is reached in the chantry the priests? warrior-servants raid a nearby settlement and bring a human or elf or non-Mikrishian down to be sacrificed on Mikrish?s altar. The 10 chantry high priests then seal their decision by drinking the sacrifice?s blood and feasting on their flesh.
Houses of nobility: There are 6 houses of nobility. They are:
Bol?Kar
Moret Kul
Stri?Nor
Koren Ha
Rikk?Qar
Si?kro
These houses fight for power and rank in the city of Bal Mikrish.
Personality: The Sons of Mikrish are a hate-filled and evil race who find beauty in plots and schemes. They decorate their temples with tapestries depicting slaughters and betrayals of a grand scale.
The sons of Mikrish cannot be trusted. Alliances are temporary and hatred reigns.
Celebrations:
Bik Mokkar: the day celebrating the demon-god Mikrish?s revealing to the Forest Elves. On this day sacrifices are made and blood and flesh is consumed.
Bik Dekkiin: the day celebrating the slaughter of the Forest Elves at Lekkar-Morn.
Kroh Megnol: the day on which The Sons of Mikrish celebrate the slaughter to come.
All festivals are celebrated with sacrifice and cannibalism as well as fights to the death between the female Mikrishians. The owner of the winning female will be given a female from the losing female?s owner?s collection.
Background lore:
Thousands of years ago the Sons of Mikrish were regular forest elves from varying tribes. They followed The Speaker, as did all of the elves, but they weren?t serious about their religion and, while they identified with the followers of The Speaker, their actions did not reflect dedication to His ways.
A demon named Mikrish revealed himself to the Forest Elves who were not content with following The Speaker. He promised them great power and forbidden pleasure if only they would follow him. Those who did formed a new tribe: The Sons of Mikrish.
At the festival of Lekkar-Morn ? the festival of the woods ? The Sons of Mikrish revealed themselves to the Elven tribes. They commanded the followers of The Speaker to abandon their God and follow Mikrish. When the other tribes declined, they slaughtered many of the Elves.
For years they waged war on the Forest Elves, destroying some of the tribes completely and crippling others. At the battle of Lui-Stera 13 Elven tribes threw down their weapons and begged for mercy. The Sons of Mikrish told them to abandon their God and follow the demon-god Mikrish, and when the 13 tribes refused they were slaughtered.
The blood from the 13 tribes was gathered and 10 members of The Sons of Mikrish bathed in it and were declared the elders. From then on The Sons of Mikrish were more organised and began wiping out settlements of the Forest Elves, and soon entire cities. Before too long they marched for the capital city of Lek Ben?rith.
The war at the Capital lasted for hours with both sides sustaining very few losses. The warlocks of The Sons of Mikrish managed to summon demons to the field, turning the tide of battle and sending forcing the Forest Elves to retreat to the gates of Lek Ben?Rith.
It was then that the exiled tribe of Forest Elves who had turned into the Moon Elves returned to the forest for the first time in years. They glinted in the sunlight and rode magnificent, long-haired horses from the cold Northlands.
It should be noted that this was in the early days of Kel?Tri, so the noble house of dragon riders had not yet started riding the beasts they bred.
During the battle some of the Moon Elves slew the demons and became the dark-skinned Moon Elves.
The Sons of Mikrish suffered a great defeat on the battlefield that day. The Moon Elves wiped out many of the soldiers, and only the elders and a small force of soldiers and warlocks escaped that day.
They retreated into underground caverns. Over hundreds of years they enslaved many lesser races and forced them to dig and build massive underground cities and tunnels.
The elders eventually had disagreements and began to fight. Warlocks and warriors began to declare fealty to individual elders and a large war broke out among the city. After a long war that got nowhere all of the elders agreed to end the war, but the war waged on in secret with houses raiding one another and trying to wipe each other out. That war is still going on today, but rather than trying to wipe each other out they now only squabble for power.
However, 4 of the original 10 houses were wiped out, leaving only 6 houses now.
In order to govern the city and lead the Mikrishians to accomplishing their goal ? bringing about ?the great slaughter? ? the 6 elders (the patriarchs of the 6 houses) formed the ?dark chantry?. 10 high priests were appointed, chosen from the 6 houses of nobility. It is commonly agreed upon in Mikrishian society that the house who has the most priests in the chantry is the most revered house.
At the moment Moret?Kul has the most high priests in the chantry, with 3 of their nobles being awarded positions. Korrstreh Triknol; Grekk?tra Triknol; and Renkat Moret?Kul, son of the patriarch, are the three priests of Moret?Kul in the chantry.
Bol?Kar and Stri?Nor both have 2 priests in the chantry. Bol?Kar defeated Stri?Nor in a battle decades ago, though, and have more nobles than Stri?Nor?s 870 nobles for the time being, making them the 2nd highest house in Mikrishian society with 873 nobles, followed by Stri?Nor, Rikk?Qar with 1 priest and 800 nobles, Koren Ha with 1 priest and 793 nobles, and Si?Kro with 1 priest and 600 nobles.

I'm also currently writing the lore for the Forest Elves and will do the deep elves after that.

Here is the map: http://hello-mrknife.deviantart.com/art/Continent-Update-333204305

I also have the following races planned, but haven't started them yet (they're up for grabs):
Good races:

Dwarves
Veil-kissed
Humans

Bad races:
Dark Dwarves
Dragon Men (I have some cool ideas for these guys)

Monsters:

Dragons
Giants
Goblins
Orcas
Pig Men

I would also love some new good races, many more bad races, and heaps more cool coasters.

The tone of the world is like a mix of D&D, Narnia, and LotR, but it's up to the authors really. I want to do this so I can role-play and write adventures in this world, so we can discuss that later.

I'm really excited about this as I think we could make something awesome.

I look forward to hearing from you.

I've just finished the first draft of the deep elves, by the way. Is anyone still interested in helping out with this?

Fantastic :D

Take a look at the templates of the races I've already made. Feel free to grab any race other than the elves (moon, forest, deep, and sons of mikrish) and the dwarves.

Alternatively you could plan out some towns or legends or myths. You could even start creating classes (demon hunter, paladin, mage, that sort of thing).

You could also start creating magic, if you wish. There will be a number of forms of magic in this world I hope, all with different rules and mechanics.

Above all, just imagine something you'd want in a fantasy world and have fun breathing life into it. That's what this is all about :)

I'm also making a few race-specific items. For example, head-priests in the deep elf community will have a banner on their back with the sign of The Speaker, and atop the banner is a glowing ball of light they wear into battle to blind the evil races underground.

This sounds like a fun project on the side, might I join in?

And also, is there a big infodump anywhere, like, say, on Google Docs or something, where we can just put all our ideas? Or do we only have the above information to start out with?

I've just created a wikia page. That way We can link races e.g.:

In the moon elf history every time the Sons of Mikrish are mentioned it links to their page, and then each noble house gets its own page.

That way it's easy to see what needs more detail, and it would be great as a reference for RPs and such.

www.vaelor.wikia.com. I've only created it so far, so there isn't anything there. I'm going to clean up the races I've done and then post them, along with the dwarves and the deep elves once I polish them up a bit.

The more the merrier :)

Also, if someone likes the looks of either of any pre-existing races feel free to write the history for a separate settlement or something, or even just certain noble houses.

This should be fun ^_^ I'm looking forward to creating something awesome with all of you :)

Oh, also, it should be noted that all Sons of Mikrish have to be evil. I don't know if I've specified that or not. If a Son of Mikrish turns good they morph into a deep elf.

Hey I'm going to a conference and won't be back until Friday. I don't know if there'll be internet there, so if you don't hear from me for s few days don't be alarmed.
