Do you have an exam on it?
I recently read Wuthering Heights which I have no relation to, but I had an English exam about it. It's a great book, though.
Unless you read it in your own time. But it's good to read books that are a little different.

It doesn't matter whether you can relate, it's about assessing your skills when it comes to the comprehension and appreciation of literature.

Sorry that the High School Musical annual 2009 isn't on the syllabus, but that's what happens when the education system is obsessed with teaching you things rather than pandering to you.

I agree, the system totally sucks.

You are taught to do tests at school. The test is on that book. Therefore you have to do it.

Because it's not about whether you like the book, it's about whether you can understand the book.

Because no one expects you to be willing - or able - to read it on your own. They think they have to put a book in your hands and sprinkle Bacon Bits on the final paragraph for you to read the damn thing.
I don't think they get that future quantum physicists and genetic engineers could care less what happens to Daisy. Not like it's gonna help them much when they're breeding the next generation of super-soldier.

It's a great snapshot on the vacuousness of the '20's, and especially the drive of 'new money' to be accepted by the 'old money' , who often believe that the newly wealthy are not legitimate in their business practices. The book also highlights the crassness that comes with huge amounts of wealth.

Plus, you can relate it to many of the things that are going on today, especially with the current economic recession, and the greed and consumption that preceeded it.

I had to do To Kill A Mockingbird.
It was ok, but not something I'd read volentarily.

Just hum the Kate Bush song while you're reading it.
