I recently read Wuthering Heights which I have no relation to, but I had an English exam about it. It's a great book, though.
Unless you read it in your own time. But it's good to read books that are a little different.
I had to read that horrid book as well. How did you stand it?!
Just hum the Kate Bush song while you're reading it.
I did :p
I have it on my iPod and the teacher borrowed it to play it one lesson.
Such a nerd... xD

Well, generally, you are not going to realate to "old stuff". Unfortunatly, "old stuff" is ideal for examining your understanding of cultural context.

Most books I had to read in high school were boring/pretentious/or just plain crap. They're also usually outdated. But luckily I was good at BSing my way through the texts/quizzes/exams. All I can say is "good luck" with those sorts of books.

Sorry that the High School Musical annual 2009 isn't on the syllabus, but that's what happens when the education system is obsessed with teaching you things rather than pandering to you.

I agree, the system totally sucks.
I've done the "high five" the "air five" but is there an "internet five"? If there is, I want to "internet five" you my friend.

pfff...

It seems some people still believe high school is about education.

Sure it makes you a well rounded person, but anyone still recall the information you where tested on the finals?

Faint inklings? Now if that was only thing they tested you on then I wouldn't be complaining.

I don't think any of the specific stuff you learn is really important, but they all apply to your academic potential and work ethic.

What their really doing is training you to be an able bodied, law abiding, hardworking citizen that will be a benefit to society through hard work.

Ah, AP English Lit, how I fondly remember you crushing any enjoyment I could possibly have in anything labelled 'classic literature'. The month spent dissecting To Kill a Mockingbird line by line will forever be remebered by me as 'To Kill To Kill a Mockingbird'. The Great Gatsby was but a passing, foregettable blip compared to that wonderous month.

If you thought Gatsby was hard to get through without being diagnosed narcoleptic, try reading Bless Me, Ultima. I read War and Peace over a summer and enjoyed it far, far more than any book whose meanings were forced upon me in an 'educational' manner.

I had to read Of Mice and Men, and though many people would agree that it's a brilliant book reflecting on the history of the Wall Street Crash, I really didn't like it.
But then I don't really like Steinbeck's style.

I like the history, though.

...What was I saying?

Awww, poor you.
That book is fucking awesome by the way.
why?
You will find out one day, padawan
lol i don't plan on reading it ever again or anything that should be on the lifetime movie network...yeah i went there
Ok, well why didn't you like it? Maybe we can find the root of your problem there.
It really helps to read books multiple times if you had some problems with them
