Oh man. My gym has an excellent selection of Hard Rock and Classic/Modern Hard Rock and Metal but it get frequently drowned out by an excessive number of generic pop songs.

Some particularly awkward ones are Lovely Lady lumps, Anaconda, and Milkshakes.

I will never forget the time that the gym owner's son played Pussy by Rammstein. In one of the side rooms where I was dead-lifting this one girl began to dry hump her boyfriend from behind who was completely with embarrassment. One of the few times that I fell over laughing.

That second one would work pretty great as a workout song... but then the singing kicks in, and you get a room full of WTF.

If I'm running or doing some type of HIIT, basically any kind of Techno actually works (even Cascada). When I'm lifting i want pissed off music though.

Anyway, I used to go to this gym where basically everyone there was at least 45, and they would play the world's least motivating music. Enya, jazz music, very slow melodic songs, it was awful. It made me want to go to sleep on the bench press.

I also used to go to a gym that I would definitely describe as Ghetto, and literally all they played was Rap and hip-hop. Some Rap can be motivating, but trying hit my PR on deadlift listening to R. Kelly serenade me in the background? Yeah wasn't giving me the edge.

I heard a techno song in my gym once a long time ago.

I don't know the name of it, but it's this really sexy spoken word techno song, where a woman is describing all the things she wants her man to do to her. And the chorus, if you want to call it that, since she isn't singing, is "You fucking me makes me bilingual"

I was doing some arm exercises next to these two middle aged women when that part came on, and I had to keep from busting out laughing from the awkwardness of it.

In a small local gym I went used to go to, they played the Titanic soundtrack by Celine Deon. It was a time where I never carried headsets to the gym.
This.actually.happened.

In the gym I currently go to, I carry my headsets with me and everything but every freakin' day for the past 8 months they've been playing a Linkin Park CD on the speaker at 9pm. EVERYDAY!

The lazy song by bruno mars keeps coming up on my gyms playlist, it is the single least motivating song ever, incorrect choice.

Here's to hoping some of the tracks in this thread actually get added to the playlist :D

(actually a decent track, but will probably be unexpected in a gym soundtrack)

*gets lost in industrial dance tracks*

The Montage song (Team America: World Police). Which really fits what people are at a gym doing at the time.

OT: I think I got one in mind:
I think if gyms had MCs, they would regret having to say the name of this song...

I found your song. It's Jose Nunez "Bilingual"

Listening to this song will make me want to work out in a way that would be inappropriate to do in a gym. Good thing I am listening to this at home. BRB I have something to take care of.

I would work out to this but chances are it'd empty the gym in about 20 seconds or result in me getting bodyslammed.

I can actually think of a bunch of Jimi Hendrix songs that could easily throw people off of their game. Some of them, like "Hey Joe" are so slow, easygoing and basically psychedelic that I could picture the entire gym getting high off of listening to them and then wandering out in a daze to get some Cheetoes.

Someone did mention "Weird Al" Yankovic. It would be cool to see how people (Especially, ones who are trying to lose weight.) would react to his song "Eat It".
How about Weird Al's "Fat"? That would be awesomely insulting in a gym, especially if there are people there trying to lose weight.
Alternatively, 'You're the One for Me, Fatty' by Morrissey. As a fat guy who goes to the gym this would probably just make me laugh
Speaking of fat...

There was another song that would've been perfect but It's been deleted from my favorites... it was something about eating a deep fried shetland pony!
