I think what not many people consider is that if the same game had been made but instead of giving the lead role of a psychotic, world destroying, robot to Asura it had been given to Jesus, the game would have been banned worldwide. If the main character had been Mohammed, the developers would now be dead. Because it's an insignificant religion like Hinduism, it doesn't deserve to be depicted with any sort of respect.
Third largest religion in the world? Insignificant? How ethnocentric.
He's being sarcastic and complaining that the wasn't a big thing due to the religion.

Anyway I see it two ways. These guys are perfectly right to ask not to be portrayed cartoony or rather that their is another more respectful depiction of their belief out there. But people are allowed to reinterpret things however they want. Piss Christ is a tad insulting but I would hate to live in a world where it wasn't allowed

I thought that it was sarcastic until I read the response to another psoter's response to it, which seemed dismissive of the sarcasm.

I agree on the freedom of speech bit. I would agree that Piss Christ seems to be intentionally provocative, hence my distaste in it, but I support its right to exist (although that goes both ways, I feel free to criticise it in return). I don't think that the Hindu response was particularly vitriolic though, so I certainly don't agree with all of the people here who have decided to play 'blame the victim'. It's a common reaction whenever someone points out a precieved injustice, and I get mighty tired of listening to it.

Yeah I just saw that. Mind boggling, whatever your opinion of Hinduism or religion in general, this stuff is important.

I would agree with you that the Hindu response has been conducted in the best possible manner. Honestly I think the game is fine but I can understand that simply by existing you would feel compelled to say "actually guys we don't quite believe that..." I mean Hinduism is such a fascinating religion by itself that even if you don't care for the spiritual dimension to it the stories it tell do deserve hearing.

well that's not right at all
How so?

words words words words.
well he's not the main character but YHVH from the Shin Megami Tensai series certainly is psychotic and world destroying even when he's trying to be nice. in some of the games you even get to team up with Lucifer and punch him in his face. and technically Jesus is featured in the persona series as a usable persona along with Lucifer, Satan, Beelzebub, and a few other deities. you were probably totally right about the Mohammed thing though.

'the game trivializes the symbols and concepts of the Hindu religion.'

The game takes the symbols and concepts of the Hindu religion and makes them awesome.
How? By removing all of the meaning associated with the symbols and using them in a superficial manner?
Telling religion to "quiet down and deal with it" involves all religions, not just whiney christian groups when they get upset over how a video game deals with an aspect of a faith.

This guy's right, all faiths deserve respect. As a Viking descendent I was greatly offended by Too Human.
This is about the worst thing you can said. Respect should be EARNED through GOOD things. Just because you're an religion or have a faith should give you respect.

Otherwise Scientology would also be in need of respect. Same goes for Islam. No, that goes too far. Respect should be earned. Not gotten just because you have faith in something.

As for the topic. I don't really care but the game just makes it look good.
Forgive me, I thought (especially on a vidoegame website) I could use Too Human as a substitute word for sarcasm.

Well, as long he doesn't get violent about it, or seek to see Freedom of Speech infringed upon, he can say whatever he wish.

As they haven't copyrighted those gods of theirs though, there's no real reason to censor oneself, any more than there is to refrain from using Thor in a Hollywood movie.
