No way man, Germany and France are too close to Italy. I hope it'll be set in Soviet Russia, but chances are it'll be in the modern day US.

The mention of German and French is a continuation of a language joke from AC2. About how one can change the language as a game option. Once again combining game mechanics with the story line

Well there is the talk of the temples which look like the South American temples, Spain and Portugal are the people who found them so I can see Spain/Portugal being contenders.

It seems unlikely to me. I think they will continue the pattern of choosing exciting, exotic locales. The Crusades, Renaissance Italy. Neither France nor Germany are particularly exotic, and neither really have any timeframe that fits the whole Assassin thing quite as well.
They've hinted at WW2 before. France is as exotic as Italy, and an Assassin could work in Germany.

Well see it has to be after the events of AC2 brotherhood, so in the last 500 years.
Why does it have to be after? everyone seems to think that it's a requirement to go forwards, and it will inevitably end up in modern day, with no Animus and playing solely as Desmond. I don't think that will happen, and I hope it doesn't. Setting it solely in modern day isn't going to work thanks to the prevalence of guns, I think they'll keep the formula largely the same. Most of the time is spent in the Animus unravelling mysteries with some time spent outside it, largely at the end of the game.
Fair enough, thats kinda what i was expecting, there's too much guns in the present. But unless there's another plot twist yet to be revealed that gives the characters reason to go before the 1500's i think it's move forward through time a bit.
^^^ My opinion, not fact.

Second World War...

It'd be interesting, another Renaissance-ish game would be cool but it would be the same sorta thing again.

While some sort of WWII Assassins Creed game would be difficult if anyone can do it its the same guys who have already made the most awesome assassin style games ever.

Um, French Revolution? You can put some nice Templar twists on that imo.

Other possible locations: American Revolution. There were both Frensh and German soldiers present there.

And I would also say that pre revolution France is probably AS exotic as Italy.

Why not!? Sounds pretty good to me. Personally though i think they will make it more Desmond based in the modern age with jumps into various locations as he moves around.

It will be in the future with Desmond being the playable character for most of the game and at the end you find out Desmond is just a memory being controlled by someone else from another Animus even further into the future. Just speculation judging by what happened at the end of Brotherhood. It's not too far out of the question all things considered.
Actually...

When I heard the voiceover after you stab lucy, "He's in shock" and the order to "Put him back in the animus", that was my very first thought. That Desmond is NOT in fact the PC, but yet another memory from a yet unrevealed protagonist. This kind of gets support from subject 16's words when you complete the cluster puzzles in AC:B. How it's "Already too late" and the answer is "The sun... Your Son..."

It's either going to be Modern Day or Nazi Germany. The puzzles in AC2 hinted that Hitler was a Templar...which really pissed me off, because now the Templars and Assassins have just become words for Good & Evil.

Here's hoping I get to assassinate someone in an SS Uniform!

Well given their current trend on the timeline I don't see them going back in time but personally for me I think they went too far forward too quickly as there is quite a lot they missed that could of been good. So whatever interesting happened in the last 500 years. Well that is a lot to pick from.

Nope as Churchill and Roosevelt were also supposed to be Templars going by the letter sent. Not sure on Stalin.

Why did they have to use all of the weapons like smoke bombs and poison? They ruined the possibility for Feudal Japan.
I would like it to be in Victorian England, but it is most likely to be set in the present day.

I want it to be set in victorian England. The roof tops and narrow lanes would be perfect also it could link to Jack the ripper some how...

Now this I find interesting. The Assassins are supposed to be the underground group - defeated by the overwhelming force of the Templar armies (who can operate in a much more open manner). It is safe to say that by Desmond-time the Assassins have mostly lost. Desmond seems to be the last gasp effort to stop the Templar plan. The more we play as Ezio (much as I love him), the more I feel like he's winning, and this creates disparity with how we know the future will play out for the Assassins.

Jack the Ripper offers a perfect opportunity to get back some of this "underground" flavour. Afterall, the Templars wrote the history books - it's easy to paint a noble Assassin as a demented killer of women if you spin it the right way.
