I once saw a guy with a beret, big glasses and a fail mustasch. He also was clothed like a teacher from the 60's in spite of being my age. Assuming that was a hipster. Tried my best not to laugh in his face when I saw him stepping out of the elevator.

As for opinions... I'm not entierly sure just what a hipster is and I'm not very intrested in learning. Seems like a sub-culture for douches though.

I joined the Army just before heard of Hipsters. Since then I've been in a closed environment or stationed oversears, so I haven't even seen a hipster. From everything I've heard though, that's a good thing.

I don't care about hipsters, I don't care about any other sort of label thing (Goth, punk, chav)

I judge people on whether them themselves are an asshole, not because the look like a certain way.

Listen to Radio Broker from GTA IV. I like to think that's what a hipster is. "If riding a rusty bicycle from the 1980s is your idea of cool, welcome to Radio Broker." I came here specifically to post that second comic if no one else had yet. It pretty much sums up how I feel about the whole "hipster" thing right now. I'm not even sure what hipsters really are anymore since everyone gets called one.

But... I do have one question that I am rather curious about. If someone "ironically" pretends to be a hipster and like hipster things, what does that make them? I have a lot of friends who do this.

I've found that "hipster" usually refers to anything non-mainstream but still cool-to-bash.

Not liking something, simply because it's popular, makes you a dickhead.

Spending more time trying to look like you don't care about your appearance than people who do care, also makes you a dickead.

Haven't you heard? Being a dickhead's cool.

Obviously, I'm only referring to the pretentious, condescending hipsters (to be fair, if you're neither of these things, then you're probably not a hipster).

I've heard they're really big into Calvin & Hobbes and other "alternative" comics. And I suppose coffee shop philosopher is another word? Anyway, I've never seen anybody who doesn't like popular things just because they're popular. No wait, the super nerds in the RPG Codex. But I don't think you would pile them with that group... Maybe it's something you see a lot at high schools nowadays but I don't know anything "you see at high schools" that would be worthy of much respect. But it seems it's mostly a term to feel safe in your own group. I like popular things if they're good.
