I want a game that's entirely based around Teddy Roosevelt's adventures as Badass Incarnate. :p
Teddy Roosevelt: Chuck Norris's real grandpa
Pfft, Teddy Roosevelt sneers at Chuck. Rightfully so. Teddy Roosevelt earned his status as Badass Incarnate because he WAS, in real life. Chuck has been elevated to this status simply because of crazy nerds making shit up. XP

I'd like to see a game that focuses on the colonization of North America, and other uncharted places, and none of this Age of Empire, its just horrible... A game like Black and White 2 was somewhat historical...
Civ4: Colonization? [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Civilization_IV:_Colonization]

The Holocaust, the JFK assassination, 9/11, Pearl Harbor (I'm sure someone's done this actually), pretty much every fucked up thing since the Boston Massacre...
Medal of Honor: Pacific Assault has a decent Pearl Harbour level. Not sure about the others though, and I think a 9/11 game would get the shit kicked out of it by most people.
and there is an in browser game that lets you reenact the JFK assassination...

Guys the total war series pretty much covers all of these.

Rome total war=Rome and its expansionism to its fall

Napoleon total war= Napoleonic wars

Empire total war= War of 1812 and colonization of north america

Napoleon (Best smoke effects!) and Empire total war (Fire by rank!)= Musketry awesomeness

Medieval 2 total war: Viking invasion of England, The crusades, The discovery of america and (Surprise!) even a little of the spanish inquisition

This might be obvious to some, but you know...just putting it out there :)
Yeah, I am well aware of the Total War series. They are good but 1 game doesn't let them off the hook. ;) I would also add the 49'ers (Wagon West) and all that and just old west in general to the list. But Oregon Trail and the few western games that have been made doesn't let them off the hook.

These are time periods I think have a very large market for them that is relatively untapped. When you look at Fantasy, WW2, and Sci-Fi (read:Space) titles you have a good look at a huge chunk of the entire video game industry. I am shocked that RPGs have very seldom dove into non-fantasy/sci-fi fields like western, piracy, and soldiers. (All popular things we have all pretended to be at one point in our lives. -Cowboys, Pirate/Swashbuckler, Soldier-) You could even add cops and robbers to the RPG market. It is too bad Alpha Protocol was as buggy as it was. I am still looking to pick it up when the price drops a bit more just because there isn't much in the RPG real outside of fantasy/sci-fi.

I couldn't stand another non-fiction game set in the past, as we all know how it's going to end.

There's no point in me replying because this man has already won this thread and the internet, but I'll try.

Something set in plague-riddled Europe, preferably without a game of chess with the embodiment of death.

Anyways, raising the Flag on Iwojima. In COD 5, you put the flag on the Reichstag, but no games I've played have let you put the flag on Iwojima.
Wait, do you mean being one of the soldiers in this shot:

or just non-dramatically actually raising the flag in capturing the area?

I think we need more FPSs involving the post-apocalypse, WW2, and the future where people wear rechargeable space armor...
Hah, just kidding. I don't tire of those types of games, although they've deluded me from coming up with any good response to this conversation...

Now I feel useless. I'll just blame it on the mainstream games...

LOL the GTA video is hilarious for trying to be serious. The dialogue, haha. Oh, the dialogue.

I sincerely think there should be game where you play as a Jewish person during the holocaust, with multiple paths as you try to escape to the west. It could almost be an RPG, allowing you to pick a profession to start out with which would give you special abilities to use throughout the game (e.g: a character who is a doctor can use his medical knowledge to identify beneficial and harmful plants should they find themselves doing some impromptu camping while hiding from Nazi patrols, or using their knowledge of medicine to help wounded Jewish people who could provide helpful information such as where to find resources/somewhere to hide for the night/patrol schedules).

The kicker would be that you'd be very limited in your ability to fight back. You're no soldier, you're a civilian and as such you can pick up and use weapons from fallen soldiers (with so-so accuracy at best), but anything beyond emptying the clip and ditching the gun would be beyond you. You'd actually have to use stealth and quick wits to avoid and get around the various Nazi checkpoints and patrols, using picked up weapons as more of a method of getting your pursuers to bugger off for a bit while you try to gain some ground away from them.

Handled with enough care and respect to all parties involved, and without trying to over-dramatize it, it could very well be a game that is both heart-poundingly exciting and at the same time thought provoking and meaningful. Handled poorly and you'd probably get something along the lines of a super extra offensive Postal.

I was gonna say the My Lai Massacre just to be a jerk, but then I realized that there are far worse and more horrific historic events by other countries than this one.
