So, this has probably been done before, but I didn't find anything - so if anyone replies "My favourite period is the search bar" - I will bite your head off. Honestly. Just try me.

Anyway, I was wondering what your favourite time periods are for the setting of a game, movie or book. My personal favourites are the Middle Ages and the Renaissance. And also, are there any periods in history that you would like to see exploited more in popular culture. I'd like the colonial era to get more attention personally. But as long as puberty-vampires don't get any more attention, I'm fine and dandy.

I just had to, I don't know if it's been done before or anything.

Favourite period would be early 90's late 80's just before the age of knowledge so to speak so there is still some mysticism in the world but also weaponry that doesn't fail. Other then that everything set in the far distant future.

favourite time setting in game, movie or book? so pretty much any time period that humanity is aware of then?

Well if thats the case the fucking Big Bang, I'd say thats a pretty damned big period in history, considering its still happening.

Yes, I mean from any time period that humanity is aware of, or periods that humanity isn't aware of such as the distant future, which period would you prefer a book, movie or a game to be set in. You know the drill, when you by a game with gameplay you don't really like, watch a movie with crappy actors or read a book by an author you don't like - just because it's set in a certain period of time you really like.

I've always sort of prefered High Fantasy, myself. Middle-Agey, but without the ignorance and Bubonic Plague.

But who can tell me why I like it so much? Reward for the right answer!
guessing from your avatar, was it because John Major was prime minister? My favourite time periods are WWI and WWII, even though they have been done to death in videogaming, but I have always found those periods interesting.

Doesn't matter, because the best stories take place in completely different worlds! :D

No, it's just that I like the sci-fi or fantasy stories that take place in a completely different place. No placing the time period of Final Fantasy, you know?

World War 2 or the middle ages, before the technologies and weaponry like guns and stuff.

Heian era Japan.

Sadly, that era is pretty much limited to the Tale of Genji, so I'll have to go with the Warring States/early Tokugawa era.

I like them all, although I prefer games set in the future. The distant future please.

As long as it is a good story or a passable one, I'll play games set in all sorts of periods.

Take a guess what my favorite is.
You like the modern day setting, something like a Gran Torino, which is about as western as you can get in the modern world.

I'd say that No Country For Old Men is as western as you can get in the modern world.

Maybe, but Gran Torino is about standing for what is right, the noble sacrifice, and heroism over overwhelming odds. It is basically High Noon in a modern world.
