Just to say, I can't remember the name of it, but there was a planet that, before life started, smashed into the Earth, a piece of it flew of and formed the moon. After this Earth's gravity increased thus enabling it to create the atmosphere necessary for life.

I would google it but whenever I type in 'planet crash into earth srat life' it comes up with bloody stupid doomsday theories.
I've heard of that theory as well, but, just for future reference, "Sol" is the sun.

And the big bang isn't all that interesting if there nothing/no one to apreciate the existence of the universe.

Ninja'd.
Sol isn't a planet and I'm sure it crashing into Earth would have killed any and everything.

And yeah, probably the beginning of life. If just considering human history agriculture is a good choice.

No, I thought a comet hit us and a piece of Earth flew off to be the moon. Whatever.

Agriculture.

Lead directly to the creation of urban specialists and thus culture...
I would've thought there'd still have been culture of sorts when we were a nomadic species with no need for agriculture.

I'd say WW2 because it spawned a billion games.

Well, the farther back you go, the more consequences an event will have.
So... the big bang? or whatever started the universe.
In conclusion, the beginning of history was the single most important thing to ever happen in history.
Correct, because all other events are a byproduct of it.

The most significant individual occurrence would be the internet. It's entirely revolutionised how we communicate on every level from stock data and corporate conversation to me chatting with friends on IRC or organising a party through a messenger programme. That evolution will continue into the future as more people get online, and new methods of connecting are developed. Perhaps one day we'll all have a mental link to the Net.

However, the most significant cultural and evolutionary stage in human history was the development of language itself. We are an incredibly expressive species and without language that would be impossible to achieve. Art comes in a close second as early humans exercised their creativity for images, performance and music.

They say that because the internet so resembles the cerebral cortex of the human brain, what with its billions of computers making trillions of connections (like billions of neurones making trillions of synapses), the internet will eventually evolve to the point where it will become self aware.

in other words: 2029, sky net goes global

I don't think that the net itself will become conscious, rather that the users will behave as a group consciousness in certain circumstances. Much the same as real world cultures and societies do.

I'd have to go with the popularization of public sanitation. This is the reason we don't continue to have plague outbreaks. We'll still have a single case reported once in awhile in L.A. or N.Y., but no outbreaks. Simple enough reason- it's carried on fleas that live on rats. Less trash in the streets = fewer rats in our homes.

And at that point, it will be disgusted at what humans have made itself. A mix of porn, memes, human ignorance, and porn. And thus it's backlash will begin.

I somehow doubt the web becoming sentient would be in any way terrifying if it did it would probably spend a majority of its time browsing porn or posting lolcats.
