Now, if it seems a bit too linear, let me remind you of the first mission in Blood Money. There, you couldn't even have a solid ranking (well, was tricky but you COULD get it actually), and the whole thing was just a railroad showcasing the game's mechanics, teaching the player how to use them. It lacked any of the freedom that was later presented in the remaining levels. Of course, enev there you were able to go outside of the box, with killing everyone or killing noone (which was the hardest thing in the series, and yes, I played the first one). My point is, this could be the same case as that first level in Blood Money, which was a terrible, terrible demonstration of the freeflowing, so much fun game that was ahead.
The bat-vision is uncalled for. I liked how the NPCs did some crazy things; I swear they disobeyed their scripts sometimes just to piss me off, or at least something triggered them to do them differently; and that just added to the tension. This way, even if there are things like that, the tension will be replaced by hideous frustration as you'll just rage at why they aren't doing what they're supposed to do, because you'll literally see it coming. I'm not fond of this idea.
The cover system? Eeeehhhh... It was alright in Human Revolution, the only thing I hated about it was how it was VITAL for you to use it. If you didn't hug the wall, they saw you 2 meters away but if you did, the guys could easily stand next to you, clearly in a normal person's viewing range standing next to you and not seeing you. That was bullshit. I liked how you could make Adam dance in the cover by changing directions frequently though. I'm not against having this in the new game, but make it goddamn worth having and don't make it unvoluntarily necessary to the gameplay.
All in all, if this is such a beginning game that Blood Money had, this might turn out to be just about as much fun with a few drawbacks, which even BM had to tell you the truth. I'm not very optimistic about it though, as the last time I checked David Bateson was not doing 47's voice (HUGE problem), and Jesper Kyd is not doing the music this time (again, HUGE problem for me as I'm sort of a fan of his stuff, but I hope for the best). I'll let the game cause me a pleasent surprise when it comes out.
Also,
*As an aside, has anyone ever actually completed that level on the hardest difficulty? I've completed all the levels before it about 5 times, but when I reach that last level I just get shot to pieces in less than 5 seconds, and even when I don't I just run out of ammo and die. Eventually I just decided it was impossible.
I made it, the key to it is take that priest or whatever as a human shield, and keep backing from the enemies without shooting them. This way hope you're lucky enough and they don't shoot until you take the guy to the top of the stairs. There, go behind that small cover to your left and start headshoting them. The priest should die pretty quickly now, and while you're not shooting, duck behind that cover. I ducked there until I eventually cleared out the room, make sure you kill the ones that are going around the cover first. Then, the last guy in the wheelchair was kicking my ass, but all you have to do is trigger him following you, then go downstairs back in the crematory. He'll die as soon as he tries to go down the stairs, and the animation is pretty hilarious for it. Hope this helped if you give it a try again.
