okay so most geeks like ourselves have at least one hobby that the average individual would NEVER admit to. So here I am to ask you. what hobbies do you have that you should probally be embarrassed about but aren't.

for me It's neopets. yes you read right that online game that's directed at younger people neopets. I thoroughly enjoy it to. It's probably because I've been playing it practically since it came out and I've just never gotten bored of it. say what you will and insult me as much as you want. I will not be offended.

so what is it for you? what's your hobby that you should be embarrassed about but aren't?
in fact even if you are embarresed. it's the internet so and it's not like we can find out who you are if you choose to remain anonymous, so spill.

EDIT: oh and for the record this is one of the reasons I love neopets so much. check it out if you care

that would belong to me thanks. I feel quite proud of myself for that.

playing those crappy flash RPG's on the internet for some reason I love them and they are a good way to waste time.

I played Warhammer online for quite a while and I made fun of myself with my friends about it. It wasn't a big deal and because I didn't care no one else thought it was either (although I have grown the reputation for being the really pale guy that only plays computer games).

some people think I should be embarrassed for being a computer programmer.
Some people think I should be embarrassed for making and playing Video games.
Some people think I should be embarrassed for being an intellectual.

I think some people ought to be embarrassed for thinking I should be.

Nerf.

Nerf guns, wars etc.
We mod them, paint them and go through hundreds of darts shooting each other.

Always get funny looks when a group of 20ish year old men walk to the check-out with $100 + worth of nerf.

I don't really have any hobbies that I should be embarrassed about but am not. Those that I should be ashamed of I am ashamed of. I guess that shows my own weakness or lack of support for the things I do?

The problem I have more often is that I shouldn't be ashamed but I am. Like watching anime. I have a few series on DVD but I keep them separate from my others because I don't want somebody to skim for a movie and see GUNDAM mixed in. I shouldn't be ashamed because lots of people like anime, and a few of my friends attend cosplay conventions. Despite all that, I hide the fact that I like it.

Growing up, gaming would have been my answer. I've always loved games, even before they were 'cool' (by which I mean before multiplayer games like CoD and Halo came out and brought the gaming industry to more jockish types and just made them more generally accepted). It was really bad because, having grown up in the middle of nowhere surrounded by farms, I grew up with people who didn't like fancy things like computers or video games.

Fanfiction. I know, butchering characters and dumb, over-the-top plots are commonplace with most Fanfiction, but I've read quite a few handfuls of extremely well-done stories. Even the crowd that likes to ship incompatible characters slips in a good one every now and again.

yikes. won't that make it ACTUALLY embarrassing if somebody finds out though?
I find that the less you try to hide something the less embarrassing it is when people find out.

It SHOULD be, according to a lot of people.

But me and 2 of my mates managed to make it fairly mainstream in our area. Since we started the shops have started stocking everything. And I mean EVERYTHING they can get!

Our wars that were originally 4-6 people now can be upwards of 20.
Nerf guns have become a fairly common conversation within our groups.

We are starting to find evidence of other wars around too. Darts in random places etc.
Everything done by me.

well while I don't look down on fan fiction, ironically I can't take it seriously unless it's a parody.

I'm a furry and it's more of a lifestyle to me than a hobby but it's one of the closest things I have since it's one of the few thing I have besides gaming and computers, but those are also lifestyles for me. So that was a mouthful...
Now that the explanation is out of the way, I'm only embarresed about being one when it comes to my family. They don't know and they're not the most receptive to the ideas outside the norm. Almost ashamed of myself that I have to keep it a secret from them but it's for my own mental stability I guess.

Sorry if it was not understandable it's late and I'm tired.

Why would you be embarrassed doing anything you enjoy? I may not shout about my various hobbies but I cannot think of anything I enjoy that embarrasses me.

"Those who mind don't matter and those who matter don't mind"
-- Dr. Seuss

List of things I enjoy that society tells me I should be embarrassed to enjoy:
Spyro (and video games in general, for that matter)
My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic
The Penguins of Madagascar
The movie "2012"
Metal
Owl City
Any sport that isn't Futbol Americano
