Hollywood's worst at portraying games/gamers.

Well, I can't pin down the worst, but the best I've seen would probably be an episode of Burn Notice. They had the stereotypical WoW addict in one episode, and while it wasn't the prettiest picture it wasn't to far off from the real addicts of that game.

This is just a generic thing I see in a lot of game-related things (Scrubs did both of these but I've seen this in plnety of other things). It's not horrible but I always get a chuckle...

A. They are playing a popular game that doesn't have the correct sounds (Scrubs had Halo on the show but generic game sounds).

B. The controller isn't on while they're playing

I've never played it but isn't Final Fantasy a single player game? Both of those kids have controllers.

It is indeed a single-play game.

Another acceptable answer would be the button mashing the kids are doing for Final Fantasy 8, like all FF games, are turn based so you really only click a few options.

It's not a terrible example, but I always have a minor reaction in Shaun of the Dead when Ed's sitting on the couch playing Timesplitters 2 and Shaun comes down to join him, picks up a controller and you hear the voice say "PLAYER 2 HAS ENTERED THE GAME". I love the movie (along with all the other Nick Frost and Simon Pegg ones) but the game DOES NOT WORK THAT WAY

There was a scene in Shorts where two kids were playing on their PS3.
Fine, fine.
They were playing Spore. Specifically, the Spore Creature Creator. Together.

Mistake List!
Spore is a multiplayer game!
The Creature creator has multiplayer in it!

I know it's been beaten to death, but "gamer" at all is just a really shitty title. Do people who read books get called "readers" or "bookers" with social stigmas attached to how much they covet book collections? Do people who watch movies all get labeled cinephiles or "movier?" It's pretty much just gaming as a recreational medium that was singled out and its people given a meaningless label.

And... yeah, that's without getting into the really shit portrayal they've often been given in movies.
