bah, both sides are doing stupid bs. this will help no one.

but i gotta admit, all those people claiming that "this will hurry up sopa!" are pretty funny.
no friend, that will not hurry up sopa. neither will it slow it down.

i wonder what is yours alternative to fighting sopa. bend over and start lubing "you-know-what-i-am-talking-about"? because that sure as hell wont help you.....

they want more control over internet, there will not be "middle ground" because both sides have already shifted the balance, and neither one will want to step back.

right now you either grab as much as you can, or you can go back to your big ol' tube of lube...

ps by sopa i mean those two pieces of %$#% that are proposed now, any any other that will be proposed in the future

OH MY LORDY LORD WHAT WILL WE DOOOO!?!?!?!?
seriously people need to grow up and learn a little about computers and the internet in general.

hackers are simply not a problem for any serious sysadmin, period all it does is waste his time
and they are only a minor annoyance to a power user,
it's called physical backup people. unless annon has it's own army of internet ninjas that can creep down the phone-line and burn all your documents, backup drives and offline storage all they can really do is annoy a few people for a week or two tear up web pages and spread propaganda

if you're stupid enough to place your only bank account details on the internet then you're vulnerable to identity theft or just theft in general, but if you have more than a pea for a brain you know to have two bank accounts or at-least a savings account.

I'll wager they don't even own a weapon between them, and if they do so what? they cant possibly be a match for law enforcement, because let's face it there are too-many cops in the world for a few geeks to run rampant anywhere
if you're 'really' that afraid go and invest in a saferoom
you can survive in those things for long enough for the damn army to march to your house if need be
honestly the only thing annon could do to me is wipe my harddrives, and write a script that fries my pc, which is due replacing anyway because it's over 6 months old
big whup, they're just giving me a good excuse to upgrade again

it's nice they have their own beliefs and stick to them, but really nobody else should worry about it unless you make them have a problem with you

Not everyone on Anon is bad! The group is openly split. There are those who hack sites using certain tools. (Those websites that say we use LOIC are completely wrong.) We do have capabilities for DDOS attacks, but some of us refuse to make those attacks (let alone any kind of attacks)! (me) There are groups within us that only do good things. Although there are those that are with us, that think that shock and awe is the best way to go about things.

As far as whether it truly is Anon, I cannot confirm. Nobody, can get into our secure chat, so the person that posted it is false. We have agreed not to go after any U.S. Government sites, so I don't know why they would change that. Unless SOPA angered an influential member. So everyone should calm down. This was not a majorly planned attack. If it was planned, it happened within the last 3 days, and the majority of Anon is not involved.

Bets up this was a SOPA back-up plan if things started looking bad for them, take down a very popular website for pirates and let them go nuts to scare old people into thinking SOPA is actually a good thing.

Maybe im just being paranoid.

I love how out of all of the things available to rage about, anonymous chooses trying to get revenge over a site that has always had the association of being a haven for streaming copyrighted material. To me, this makes anonymous a painfully hilarious band of dedicated idiots.
Not only that but they are gasp PROFITING off the consumers who want the ability to share copyrighted material. What Megaupload is doing is completely criminal.
I'm not so much mad at Megaupload as I am laughing at Anonymous. While Megaupload has questionable policies, there's a good chance that they didn't originally plan the whole "Our website is a haven for piracy!" aspect. Also, the reason I'm laughing at Anonymous is because the few times where they've shown themselves to have the tiniest ounce of morality have all been for nothing ever since this uprising started.

It's not about what the site does, it's about fighting censorship. One site goes down, it sets a precedent that could put any site down...

Wake up.
With Megaupload gone, it helps fight SOPA since less of a threat (profiting off storlen- copyrighted
material) means less of a push from the industries that originally supported the bill.
Uhh... No. SOPA is about getting the power to persecute over-seas sites, such as Pirate Bay, hence why they were able to shut down Megaupload without SOPA or PIPA passing. Also, with a small bit of research you'll find that the a lot of the big companies pushing SOPA were actually the one's who not only released and spread piracy software, they also taught people how to use it through sites under their umbrella such as CNET.com and Download.com.
Wow...conspiracy theorist at work.

Him really sad by the level of disinformation and ignorance on most of these comments.
So Anonymous actions have no consequences? They do! They alert the general public to questions that are important (maybe u dunno, but they supported several revolutions occurring in 2011 the way they could). And yes they can do harm if they want, don't think its all just about DDOS.
About one of the CEO's of one of the biggest internet security companies:

http://www.thetechherald.com/articles/After-dealing-with-Anonymous-HBGary-Federals-CEO-resigns

The blackouts, while u may say that are nothing special...well, who said it's only blackouts?
And if you guys thinks the blackouts were about Megaupload think again. Megaupload just presented as an opportunity, since the real targets are SOPA and the PROTECT IP-ACT. In fact the results of the operation were so good that this is the result, and don't try to bullshit me with things like "wikipedia went black, that was more important than to shutdown several sites from the government and corporations" because if you guys use your brains i think you know what hurts the most (and this assuming that compromising information wasn't taken from anywhere to "negotiate afterwards") :

http://www.pakalertpress.com/2012/01/17/house-kills-sopa/

And for those who say Anonymous don't even show their face, well the majority doesn't, but that doesn´t means that nobody shows their face:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_lXau4TDt7M

For more information about hackers, so that some of you have no misconceptions and get a little more instructed:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P91U-6_fHqE

No, i'm not saying that all hackers are good and do good things, but from all the Anonymous operations please tell me one that has a bad reason:

http://www.anonops.blogspot.com/

You're wrong if you think the movement is just about hacking sites and has no "fighters" on the ground.

Next time many of you post a comment about something, make sure u guys have all the facts...after all it's not like God made the world in seven days.

What? Spoiled children are throwing a tantrum that will accomplish nothing? Who would have thought?

Seriously, who is surprised that the champions of piracy are angry about one of the biggest download sites being shut down? Who is surprised that they are "retaliating" with temporary hacks that will have no long term effect other than maybe, maybe, getting them caught, I can only hope.

Just... go, hide, preserve our knowledge and wisdom, teach future generation.
Teach them well... So they wouldn't repeat our mistakes.

Now go, i'll stay. Somebody must sacrifice for the majority.

Anonymous is mad the government shut down a site that pretty much does NOTHING ELSE but stream copyrighted material? I will continue saying what I have always said: They are teenagers. Megaupload was lucky it lasted so long, and NOBODY should be surprised it's been shut down.

And of course, Anonymous "shuts down" a government website... for what? A day? *gasp* TWO DAYS?! Who cares? Even for the Dept. of Justice this is an annoyance at the very worst.
I use(or used to) Megaupload a lot for downloading mods.I've never downloaded copyrighted material from it.

Just heard about this on a (Austalian) radio news broadcast.
"The US is having some trouble with an anonymous hacker group taking over government security and media sites."
Just imagine the chaos if SOPA passes.

EDIT: To those saying "Anon won't achieve anything by this," I disagree.
These actions are already getting international media attention (as above, for example), and it's only a matter of time before the public begin to ask "why?"
In my opinion, this is exactly what the sort of thing needed to bring SOPA into the public eye, just like the website blackouts. Sooner or later, the media won't be able to pointedly ignore SOPA anymore, and then the shit will REALLY hit the fan.
Tbh wiki going down for a day, for ANYTHING is enough to put half the world into a fit of rage over whatever wiki is pissed about. Lets be honest, we all relay on that site far more than we should.

Well unfortunately we will be most definitely caught in the crossfire, the chances of this changing anyone's mind about the bill is slim though.

I mean it's been a while since something interesting has happened, so it's not all bad. The sites they shut down are all run by pricks anyways, and of course lastly it's non violent.

Pretty cool stuff.

It was only a matter of time before anon took action, after they announced SOPA and PIPA I figured it would happen right away but it seems they waited to make the second move and what a second move it was. However it seems this may hurt us in the end depending on how the senate and the house of reps view this. Anon may have screwed us over.
