Anonymous is mad the government shut down a site that pretty much does NOTHING ELSE but stream copyrighted material? I will continue saying what I have always said: They are teenagers. Megaupload was lucky it lasted so long, and NOBODY should be surprised it's been shut down.

And of course, Anonymous "shuts down" a government website... for what? A day? *gasp* TWO DAYS?! Who cares? Even for the Dept. of Justice this is an annoyance at the very worst.
You seem to forget that Anonymous are the dudes or dudets that took down a kiddy porn site and also sent the info to the police.

Its not necessarily Mega Uploads fault, if you don't know. It works like Youtube, if a user flags a video for copyrighted content, then it will then be looked at by Youtube and if found guilty will have the video shut down, do it enough though, and you lose your account. And, to Mega Uploads favor, it worked very fast on that.

People are mad because the "Man" already took down a song that was in support of Mega Upload. While containing no copyrighted content, it was still taken down and that in and of itself is proof of coporate censorship.

I don't know how I feel about anon half the time. Half the time I'm like 'hell yes!' and the other half I want to face palm. I'm not surprised that they are jumping in though. Anon is all about free speech and SOPA was about as anti free speech as you can get.

When they do something like this I wonder about the ones who are taking advantage of the distraction. A good opportunity to act where otherwise you'd be having problems.

Pretty much sums it all up nicely.

I haven't used any of the MEGA sites in years ever since I learned about Kimble's involvement. As much as he amazes me, he's bad news. I really wish him and his family well, but selling paid premium accounts to access illegal copyrighted material just plain doesn't seem to be too fresh or straight an idea. I know there were supposedly other uses for it, but I can't remember when I last went to megaupload to download some driver or patch or original mp3. There are so many more, less 'delicate' hosting providers.

Y'know, I find it somewhat amusing, albeit irritating, that the Lulzy ones attempt to defend the Rolls-Royce-driving head honcho of what, in retrospect, pretty much translates to "Warez-R-Us"...

This much operation in battle to the SOPA is enough to at least make the Government think. But Mega upload was in the same boat as lime wire- you had a pretty good feeling that it was going to go down and any time it spent afloat counted as a victory.

I myself don't necessarily support Anonymous but I can appreciate how pissed they are,and even understand why they would attack what they've attacked. but after they chickened out on the Mexican Drug Cartel Threats, i stopped looking at them with the respect i had before. They've had other successes in their cyber attacks, though i don't have the complete list of actions.

As much as i hate to admit it- the SOPA was thrown together for a decent cause- it just got tortured and contorted to its current form of censorship. the movie companies and music companies aren't making the same money they're used to making. as much as it sucks times are changing but some people have adapted with the help of-
http://soundcloud.com/ for almost everyone

but the best success is from Angels & Airwaves-

WoW you're genius! I bet you don't know what is the movie from where the masks, (that are kinda of a symbol) that they many times use, were taken.
Oh! And the part "We are Legion" is based upon the Bible Mark 5:1-9
When a demon-possessed man sees Jesus he runs to him and asked what Jesus wanted with him. Jesus asked his name and he replied "My name is Legion, for we are many".

Oh wait. That is not all! Not only did they shut down the website of Department of Justice Buuuut...

http://gawker.com/5877707/the-evil-new-tactic-behind-anonymous-massive-revenge-attack

Pretty much every company that makes movies, TV, or music, along with the entirety of the federal government, is in Anonymous' crosshairs.

Jesus christ the internet is at war. What with SOPA and this shit. And we are gonna be caught in the middle.
Well, yeah. Sorta, at least. One of Anon's greatest strengths is the combined power of a mob mentality and the inhibition removal that comes with being anonymous. People who are trying to regulate the internet are seeing firsthand what happens when anon gets legitimately angry.

Imagine the internet as a floor in an office building. Now imagine Anonymous as a massive but lazy gorilla that lives in said office. Normally, it doesn't give two shits what everyone else does on the internet: it has a tire swing and some bananas or something, and that's all that it cares about. Your ability to work is completely unimpeded by its presence.

Now imagine that some asshole who doesn't actually use that office very often comes in and takes away the gorilla's stuff. And suddenly, that gorilla doesn't have things to keep it content anymore, and it starts to get angry.

It's at that moment that you realize that it's a massive fucking gorilla, and it will tear that office apart until it finds that tire swing.

Well, I knew they were going to get involved sometime during this whole SOPA thing. Next thing you know LulzSec will get together for a reunion...

Most of the "warfare" is harmless DDOS attacks. Shit will go down when people who actually know what they're doing get involved, and I'm sure they will.

Not sure how I feel about this. Yeah, the government needs to get its ass kicked for its grandstanding lately, but this is setting a precedent for "Anonymous assaults whoever they don't like to get whatever they want". Fighting back is one thing, but terrorism is another.

Also, I really wish they'd start mandating images posting around here. The people who post images as a reaction to every fucking thing for no good damn reason are getting way out of hand. This isn't 4chan.
