I was rewatching Alien just now, and I reached a scene I knew well, where Brett goes off looking for Jones the cat. It's a pretty well known scene, mostly because it's where we catch our half-glimpses of the alien for the first time.

I have only just noticed that at about 1 hour, 3 minutes and 40-something seconds, you have a clear view of the alien, dangling in the support cables above Brett's head as he stands under the water flow. (The timing is the Director's Cut version only, but I assume the scene is in all of them).

Needless to say, I damn near jumped out of my skin.

So the topic is two fold. Who else noticed the alien in this scene? And what other movies, games, books, or whatever (I include fanfic and all web productions) have included blink-and-you'll-miss-it moments that you only caught after repeat viewings. (Preferably ones that scared you or creeped you out.)

Yeah I remember the alien, hanging out in plain sight but also practically invisible. There was a similar moment in Pitch Black when the body was being dragged to the pit (just before the aliens made their presence known) and you just barely see Riddick, blurred in the forground hiding behind a rock.

can't say I've seen it. guess I'll have to now.

Mine was after watching the Mothman Prophecies a few times, I noticed (I think my second or third time through) the "mothman" in the mirror near the end.

There's a moment in Let the Right One In which is very like this. It's a Sweedish horror/young romance film about a psychotic kid and a 200 year old vampire who looks like a 12 year old girl. It's also the best thing I've seen about Vampires, but I digress.

There's a scene where the girl wishes to see someone in hospital. She enters the hospital and asks the reception lady where the guy is, she says he her uncle. The lady says he's on the 12 floor, where are your parents? Don't worry about it, says the girl and runs out again. The receptionist goes out of the hospital, obviously anxious about a 12 year old girl being on her own, especially considering the man she wishes to see.

As the receptionist goes outside we have a clear show of her looking around and the hospital behind her. I sat there scanning the for about 20 seconds and nearly jumped out of my fucking skin when I saw the girl scrambling up a drain pipe like a fucking spider in clear site. Just one of the many chilling moments in the movie.

Seriously, find it if you can, even if it's off the internet. You won't regret it.

There are lots of points in Predator that you can see the Pred hiding in the trees, sometimes it?s so minor i can remember thinking that a considerable effort has been made to put something in that most people will never notice, just to make the film feel more authentic, which is ace.

I'd have to mention the Exorcist III here too. The scene when Kinderman is in the old folk?s home talking to another character when in the back ground an old woman is scurrying along the ceiling. My brother was so involved in the dialogue that he never noticed the old woman, and was confused by my sudden "Ah-Ah-AH holy shit, not cool, not cool" (it really freaked me out...)

Good thread btw, I'm off to watch Alien.

i sometimes notice things like that and sometimes the directors put things in there for you to catch.

there's a few signs calling out other directors and such in Ong Bak

Funny thing about Alien is that when it first burst out of the guys chest is that the director did not tell the other actors. so them shitting themselves was all real.

Actually, they were told, just not in great detail. In particular Veronica Cartwright was told only a little blood would get on her shirt, and then they pointed a whole jet at her face. On the script it was only specified as "the creature", so the look of the thing was new, but the actors were aware that it was gonna bust a ribcage and then run off the table on a little dolly.

The only OHFUCK moment I can remember right now is during the first AVP. They're walking down a corridor and the camera focuses on some statues for a bit, I'm admiring the architecture and wondering how much research and effort they put into sculpting those, then WHAM disguised Predator throws a spear.

Well it is still funny, and that part was pretty good to.

Umm...In The Phantom of the Opera, there's this one moment on the rooftop scene where The Phantom is literally standing half an inch away from Christine, blending in with a statue-- and the crepiness is only compounded when you remember that she's dancing with Raul at the time.

The second time watching Fight Club, I noticed Tyler Durden had spliced a single frame of himself into a certain scene.

I have yet to find any others in my movie, but I bet they're there.

In Dead Birds, when they're running through the house during the climax, they run by a window. If you watch closely, you can see that it reflects not the characters as they appear, but

the monsters they've become.

Otherwise, this isn't revealed until the very end of the film.

Drat, now this single frame thing is really bugging me. I've got to know where they all are! There have to be more than just that one!
