UGH

They have the Warhammer 40K Specialist games license, yet they've chewed through only Space Hulk, Mordheim and now BFG, but where is the best game, NECRO-FREAKIN'-MUNDA, SON???

Anyway, this will be lame, because the worst part of 40K is the imperium factions, minus Imperial Guard. And Chaos and Orks are boring, with the only semi-interesting faction being Eldar in an entire game, it's not worth playing.

No Dark Eldar, Necrons or Tau? GTFO then.

Sums up the design principle for the 40k setting :p Practicality is heresy, rule of cool only.

Otherwise maybe those are some massive asteroids in the pics, but don't feel the size of those Imperial ships to be properly conveyed, those things are meant to be massive with the smallest Imperial ships the equivalent of the bigger ships from other sci fi settings.

Anyways looking forward to a non sucky warhammer game, between this and the Total War(hammer) announcement, I'm cautiously optimistic at least one of these games will turn out decent though still waiting for a 40k rpg a la mass effect.

Oh, that'd be even better. I've been crossing my fingers for a Rogue Trader RPG for ages! Who knows, with a spot of luck...

Rogue Trader or not, I'm just glad we're getting something Spess Mehreen-free for once.

A rogue trader rpg, an Inquisitor rpg, heck even an Imperial Guard or Eldar rpg could all work, there are so many directions you could go in...

Imagine starting out on a fairly standard medieval world with standard fantasy tropes only to have that world consumed by tyranids (or chaos or any other number of apocalyptic events and ancient horrors, 40k is full of them), and your pc is saved from the world's destruction by a passing Inquisitor or Rogue Trader who spares your character for plot reasons, and then your character has to come to grips that not only was his/her world destroyed but your world was a small insignificant spec in a vast universe and so our story begins...
Something like that would be an effective intro for 40k neophytes and help introduce the lore one step at a time, then maybe you can go crazy in future games and take more risks.

I know the 40k tag line is "there is only war" but there is so much more you can do with the setting then RTS and Strategy games.

It looks like an Armageddon Battlecruiser with a squadron of Dauntless Light Cruisers alongside. These ships are roughly 4-5km in length and only two ship classes apart in terms of size and armament. Also, Asteroids are fucking huge.

Wonder if it is just going to be a combat RTS or if it will have Empire building in it.

Those are probably Sword class frigates, Dauntless' have a hexagonal engine arrangement and bigger gun section. Also, the Armageddon Has a Lance Battery to the rear, so it's probably an Overlord.

The Armageddon has the long prow gun though.

I personally would have liked having the specialist games.
I want to have my lunar class cruisers, paint them and enjoy myself on the table top.
But it looks good i guess

Nope, Armageddons have the "ram", just like in the picture posted. As do Overlords:

Difference being that Armageddons have a lance battery on each side instead of a second weapons battery.

I always thought a Rogue Trader civ in DoW2 would have been cool. You like hero units? Here's an army that's nothing but ONE SQUAD OF HERO UNITS.

Commander options: Ridiculous space pirate, Sexy lady ridiculous space pirate, Space pilgrim with plasma musket.

1) I'm guessing the DE, Newcrons and Tau will be added with patches/expansions (assuming this game doesn't bomb commercially).

2) I agree wholeheartedly, where the f*** is Necromunda?! It seems like it'd be an obvious license to use. I mean, Shadowrun Returns meets XCOM: Enemy Unknown meets Warhammer 40,000 seems like it'd be something you'd want out there, not that there's a proven market for these games.

Ever play Homeworld? There is a feature in the game that allowed you to set which plane your ship fought at. Essentially each map was a big cube with an up down left right backwards and forwards maneuvering.

They are making Mordheim, which I believe is quite similar in premise, so maybe they'll get to work on Necromunda if Mordheim does well?

It'll probably be 2D, the original was 2D, they said that as far as the rules went it would just turn into a range modifier if they had 3D ship manoeuvring. If all these recent GW games have taught us anything it's that they don't want to have to put much effort into adding stuff to the original game.

To be honest, I don't want them to add stuff to the game.

With GW removing all the old games, having gaming companies recreate them in game format (Bloodbowl, Space Hulk, Mordheim and now Battlefleet Gothic) is fantastic.

I also second the Necromunda coming back.

Now, do a Bioware or Witcher style Eisenhorn game and you've bloody got me forever. I'll never leave that game. I'd go out of my way to make additional story modules for it. DO EET FOR CHAOS!
