Sup guys,

Got a little problem here so I'll to explain and I'd appreciate all input.

14th July: Sister will leave country, she will give me her pet hamster (to take care of it)
23rd July: I will need to leave the country also (for 10 days)

She said "It's OK, we can put 10 days worth of food and water for the time you are away"
But I am convinced that he will die.

What do you guys think? and I admit that I will think of him the whole holiday, daily wondering if he is dead.

Over reacting? Justified?

Cheers!

I don't know anything about hamsters, but I know I would be worrying as well. If only because I tend to worry over stuff like that.

If you're that worried, just hire a pet sitter.
Thought of it, but most of my friends don't want the responsibility, or are you talking about a professional?

Yeah, usually there's small groups of people you can call and they take care of it for as long as you need. Just check the phonebook or online, there should be one somewhere!

...Responsibility of going to your house once every 3 days to give it more food/water?

I'm pretty sure if you give it 10 days of food it will eat it in one go. I'm not sure if that would kill it though.
Surely one of your friends could go and give it food and water once a day. Offer them money (or your sister's money)

A hamster requires a professional? Can't they just fill the food bowl and refill the water bottle once a day?
Professional = paid :)

Couldnt you ask parents or a friend to mind him, 10 days really isnt that long and its not as if a hamster can cause chaos.

My thoughts exactly. Or, I know that they make machines for people who own fish but are going on vacation, where you drop food into the machine before you leave, and it despenses a certain amount every day, maybe they make one that's calibrated to work with hamsters as well?

I hate those machines, it will worry me more to think about if stopped working.

Home Alone Hamster?, just give him plenty of hardware store sundries like nails, glue and tubs of paint and hopefully he'll defend your home against would be burglars with hilarious consequences!

Although seriously I'm pretty sure hamsters are quite happy storing food for weeks at a time, go wiki it.

Guh, no one wants to take care of it, and I honestly don't want to leave it alone, pet shops are offering help but at massive prices.
